Bad news, although expected, for users who are waiting for the launch of the next iPad to renew ours: according to Mark Gurman, who has a high percentage of success in his leaks, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro it will be the first to see an increase in its price. According to Gurman, the tablet that will replace the iPad Air 2 will come with a price 100 $ higher, which would leave it at € 599. If we take into account that currently the iPad Air 2 is priced at € 489 in Spain, it is most likely that the entry model of the new iPad is priced at € 589.
In terms of storage, the entry model will double its capacity and will go from 16GB to 32GB. We might think that this is good news, but the iPad Air 2 that costs € 589 right now has a 64GB memory, so paying the same we would get half the storage. Gurman also claims that there will be LTE and 128GB models, but it is unclear if there will be a 64GB model. Most likely, the models and prices will be as follows.
Probable prices and models of the iPad Pro 9.7 (according to Gurman)
- 32GB Wi-Fi only: € 589
- 64GB Wi-Fi only: € 689
- 128GB Wi-Fi only: € 789
- 32GB Wi-Fi + LTE: € 709
- 64GB Wi-Fi + LTE: € 809
- 128GB Wi-Fi + LTE: € 909
With the best of luck, a 64GB model would not be launched, so we could buy a 128GB one for a lower price, something that, knowing Apple, seems impossible.
Mind you, the 9.7-inch iPad Pro will be even better than the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, including a "brighter" screen (some rumors claim it will be 4K, something Gurman doesn't mention today) and 12MP flash camera with the possibility of 4K recording. It will share with its older brother the A9X processor, M9 co-processor, four speakers, 4GB of RAM, Smart Connector and compatibility with the Apple Pencil.
Gurman also gives us another bad news regarding the iPad Air 2: the new model would not replace the current Air, so its price will not change next Monday and the 489GB model will remain at € 16. The original iPad Air would be discontinued and the current Pro and mini 4 models will remain the same, which should come as no surprise as it was introduced last September. If Gurman is right as usual, will you buy the 9.7-inch iPad Pro? And if the answer is yes, what model?
Taking into account that in my country (Uruguay) an iPad Air 2 only 64GB WiFi is obtained (as cheaply) between U $ S 760 and U $ S 860, and that therefore it is impossible for the cheapest iPad Pro 9.7 to go down Of the U $ S 850 in these parts, I am saying goodbye to the illusion of acquiring any other model, unless it sells a kidney or something like that (no, it doesn't deserve it).
