One of the main novelties of the iPhone 14 Pro is the “Always On Display” or always on screen. Nevertheless there are times when the screen will turn off to save battery.
Inherited directly from Apple Watch, the always-on display on the new iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max lets you see the time, widgets, wallpaper, and notifications even when your phone is locked and not in use. Apple has managed to minimize the impact that this has on the battery of the terminals decreasing the brightness of the screen and lowering the refresh rate of the screen to 1Hz. However, there will be times when the screen turns off, because it doesn't make the slightest sense for it to stay on. When does this occur? In the following situations:
- The iPhone is placed upside down
- The iPhone is inside a pocket or a bag, backpack, etc.
- Sleep mode is activated
- You are using CarPlay connected to your vehicle
- Low power mode is activated
- You are using iPhone as a webcam on your Mac (Continuity Camera)
- You walk away from your iPhone with your Apple Watch on (necessary so it knows you're walking away)
- You haven't used your iPhone for a long time
As you can see Apple has included situations in which it doesn't make the slightest sense that the screen is on. Despite the fact that for now the recently released "Always On Display" does not leave many customization options in Apple, they have thought about how to optimize their energy consumption to the maximum. Perhaps the possibility of adding to other concentration modes the fact that this mode is deactivated, not only with the Sleep mode activated, is missed. But the functionality has just been released and new options will surely be added in the next versions of iOS.
