During the presentation of the new 9,7-inch iPad Pro, we were able to verify after reading the specifications, that both the iPad Air 2 and the 9,7-inch iPad Pro, they offer us the same dimensions and the same thickness (6,1 millimeters) which might suggest that iPad Air 2 accessories such as the Smart Cover could become compatible. Nothing could be further from the truth. Like the Smart Cover is not compatible with the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro, the Smart Case it is also not compatible with the new iPad model.
With the launch of the 9,7-inch iPad Pro, Apple has just launched a new range of Smart Covers specifically for this new device that can be purchased together with this model. In the specifications of the Smart Covers we can see how at no time Apple mentions that these new covers are compatible with the iPad Air and iPad Air 2. On the other hand, the covers that Apple has launched for the iPhone SE, if they are compatible with the models 5 and 5s, as we can read in the compatibility of these new covers.
The compatibility problem comes by the magnetic connections that allow automatic closing and adjustment of the lid to the iPad cover. These magnetic connections are in a different position than usual, so if you want you can use the Smart Cover of the iPad Air and iPad Air 2 on your new 9,7-inch iPad Pro, but you will not get the cover to fit the screen and does not open during transport in addition to not automatically turning off the screen of the same when we close it.
With the Smart Cover, it is more or less the same. The new Smart Covers are prepared with outputs for the four speakers located in the corners of the device, while that of the Air models, they only offer the outlet at the bottom. Three-quarters of the same happens with the position of the hole for the camera, which does not offer space for the flash that the new 9,7-inch iPad Pro incorporates.
