4K content landing on iTunes begins

Apple has started rolling out 4K movies on the iTunes Store. The Apple TV 4K will be available for pre-order starting tonight and won't actually be released until next week, but they've already started uploading 4K content. Apple is apparently preparing the iTunes store for the debut of the newest member of the Apple TV family.

Apple TV 4K supports Dolby Vision and HDR, so you'll now see badges in the iTunes Store and the TV app for movies of such quality. Currently, Apple appears to be in the process of rolling out 4K HDR movies to iOS 11 and tvOS 11 beta users. The company, as promised, is also updating purchased movies for those users at no cost.

This process of revamping much of the movie catalog to upgrade to 4K HDR is in the early stages. Movies are slow to go on the iTunes Store, but TV shows seem to be lagging behind as no 4K TV content has been found available to users yet.

Along with Apple TV, 4K at its special event this week Apple announced that it was going to begin distributing 4K content through iTunes. Perhaps most notably, it will be as the company said and 4K content will cost the same as regular HD content. Additionally, all previously purchased movies would be upgraded to HD at no cost to users. What is clear is that this change in quality will be appreciated ... especially if we have a 4K television in our home, because if not ... we will not notice the change in quality in the least. Perhaps this will also increase the sales of televisions.
