iTunes 9.1 allows us to compress our library to AAC

conversion-aac

It is a function that was rumored to include iTunes 9.1, but in a different way, and what was said is that we were going to be able to convert the entire library to AAC 128Kbps, while what has been implemented is that all the songs that sync to iPhone (or iPod) are converted to 128 Kbps AAC with the consequent saving of space.

In my opinion, this is an almost indispensable function for those who have an 8 GB iPhoneWhile those with higher capacities can think about it if they want, it all depends on how purist you are with the formats, the quality and the bitrate, but if you are not, it pays a lot.

To do so is as simple as connecting the iPhone and activate the box marked in the image that heads this entry.

One question: Are the songs in the old format still kept in the library or are they replaced by the AAC versions?

By the place where this option is, I am 99% sure that it does not touch the files of the Mac or the PC at all, it just slightly reduces the quality of the music in the copy that is sent to the iPhone. I personally am going to use it, because in a portable device like this, I think it is a waste of space and it does not have to be noticed in the quality at all. On the Onkyo at home I would notice it, and only on certain songs, but on the iPhone I'm sure not.

Does anyone know if it modifies the songs that we had already passed before or only those that we send to the iPhone after activating this option….

Pd: we know for sure that there is no problem with this new iTunes and the Jailbreack ???

Spectacular! I just tested it on my 3GB 8G, the memory allocation was at:
    • 4,89 music, 875 MB free (other applications, photos, etc)
I activated the AAC box and the final result WITH THE SAME content was:
    • 774 MB music, 4,99 GB free !!!
    … A gain in space !!!
I confirm that the compression is carried out on the iPhone files ... on the computer it does not touch anything (in fact the option only appears in the summary menu of the connected device 😉
And indeed the sound quality using headphones or portable speakers is exactly the same, since most of the information that compression discards is information that was left over for the speakers that we usually use on a daily basis. I'm already thinking, finally, all the albums that I will load now to vary the content that I usually carry a little more 🙂
    Greetings to all!
