iWork for iOS is updated to accommodate Yosemite

Finally Yosemite is now available to the general public and we can check and enjoy all the benefits that Apple had promised us, where the integration between the iDevices and our Mac is almost total. From being able to receive and make calls from our Mac (Continuity) to continue what we are doing on our iPhone or iPad on our Mac without having to save it in iCloud to continue working (Handoff).

The full integration process not only depends on whether we have Yosemite installed on our Mac, but it is also necessary to have the latest version of iOS 8 (iOS 8.1, the first major update of iOS 8, will be available next Monday). It is also necessary that Handoff compatible apps are up to date on both devices. The iWork suite for iOS and OS X has been updated to take advantage of the new possibilities offered by iOS 8 and Yosemite. Here are the improvements, many of them common to Pages, Numbers and Keynote, which make up the iWork suite for iOS and OS X.

  • Instant reorganization of data in tables with the new transpose feature.

  • New custom color mixer for the iPad.

  • Color selector to take samples and use it in any position of the table.

  • Improved accessibility and compatibility.

What's new in Keynote for iOS

  • Compatibility with iCloud Drive and other cloud storage providers.

  • The file format has been updated to make it easier to send.io of documents through Dropbox and Gmail.

  • Handoff compatible to switch between different devices immediately.

  • New color options including a custom color mixer for the iPad.

  • Color selector to take samples and apply the color available in the document we are working on.

  • New crawl animation and new presenter screen layouts.

  • Link Keynote with nearby iOS devices to control slide play.

  • It also allows us to take photos and videos directly without leaving the application.

  • Alignment guides between tables.

  • Floating comment printing.

  • Column and row labels in tables.

  • Easier resizing and chart layout options.

  • Improved accessibility and support for two-way languages.

Now we just have to install Yosemite and update the iWork suite for iOS and OS X to be able to enjoy all these new functions, some of them very interesting, such as Handoff. As a longtime Office user, I'd like to see Microsoft support Handoff. It is very likely that in a few months, the developers will present updates to their Handoff compatible applications, which at the moment is only compatible with those of Apple, but everything will work.
