Jailbreak and install Cydia on iOS 8 step by step

Pangu-iOS-8

Just a few days after the launch of iOS 8.1 and the legacy of the first iPhone 6 and 6 Plus we already have Jailbreak. PanguTeam, who have already launched the previous Jailbreak for iOS 7, have surprised us by the speed with which they have managed to get a Jailbreak compatible with the latest Apple software and its devices (except for the new iPads). Although it is a Jailbreak that does not install Cydia automatically, if you cannot wait for the new application to be launched, it will already do so, it is not too complicated. We explain step by step how to Jailbreak with Pangu, and then how to install Cydia easily.

Step 1: Jailbreak Pangu (Windows only)

Pangu-1

The bad news is that Pangu currently only exists for Windows and it is also in Chinese. The good news is that Mac users can install Windows on our computers and we only have to press a button, so you don't have to panic either. Download Pangu from its official page, it is an executable file that does not need installation.

Pangu-2

A couple of things before pressing the button:

  • Your device has to be updated via iTunes, updates via OTA do not work.
  • Deactivate the unlock key
  • Turn off Find My iPhone / iPad

Once this is done, and with a backup that serves as a backup because something goes wrong, we can now connect our device to the computer and click on the blue button in the Pangu window. Our terminal restart several times, we do not have to touch anything until we see that the progress bar is completely blue and after a couple of restarts it appears gray again.

When unlocking our device we will see that Pangu appears on our springboard. We will need it for the next part of the tutorial: install Cydia on our device.

Step 2: Install Cydia

OpenSSH-Pangu

The first thing we need to do is install OpenSSH to be able to access our device. To do this, click on the Pangu icon on our springboard, and choose the OpenSSH application. Click on the upper right button (Install) and the installation process will begin. Once finished, click on OK and exit the application.

We can now access the file system of our device. To do so we download Cyberduck or any other application for Mac or Windows that allows you to do so. We install it on our computer and connect the computer and our iPhone or iPad to the same Wifi network to access it.

Install-Cydia-1

We run our application just downloaded and click on «New Connection», we select the correct connection (SFTP, as the image shows) and we write the IP of our iPhone or iPad to the server. If you don't know it, in Settings> WiFi, by clicking on the «i» to the right of your network, you will be able to see it. In username, type "root" (without quotes) and in password "alpine" (without quotes). Click on connect and wait a few seconds.

Install-Cydia-2

You will have accessed the file system of your device. Now we have to pass the necessary files to install Lydia that you can download from this link to Dropbox. Unzip the file you download and lThe two files that appear drag them to the Cyberduck window so that they are transferred to your device.

Install-Cydia-3

Once there we will be able to execute the command so that they are installed in it.

Install-Cydia-5

Click on «Go> Send order» inside the Cyberduck menu and paste the following command in the window that appears:

dpkg –install cydia-lproj_1.1.12_iphoneos-arm.deb cydia_1.1.13_iphoneos-arm.deb

Install-Cydia-6

Then click on send, and when finished click on close the window.

Install-Cydia-8

Go back to the menu «Go> Send order» but now in the window paste the following command

reboot

Click on "Send" and your device will restart. When the springboard appears again you will see that Cydia is already installed on it.

iPhone-6-Cydia

You already have Cydia installed on your device. The first time you start it, it will prepare the file system and reboot. From there you can use it. Remember of Cydia Substrate has just been updated to be compatible with iOS 8, but still many tweaks are not, so be careful. Take a look at this article where you can see some already supported tweaks.

Hello, thank you very much for the contribution.

If I do this I no longer have to wait for the pangu update where Cydia is included? That is, when the pangu update comes out with cydia included, will I have to Jailbreak again?

    1.    Luis Padilla said

If only that is the change, it would not be necessary. If they introduce other changes, maybe yes, we will inform you about it.

I can't give the option to "send order" but it comes out more clearly and I can't select it .. HELP please

I, too, when I got to the "send order" step, he wouldn't let me, I couldn't execute that option. I solved it by installing winSCP. You have a terminal and there run the commands. Terminal opens with Ctrl-T

After all, I was able to install Cydia, even though in Cydia there is a warning that the tewts are being updated and that several applications do not work well, which asks you for your patience so that the developers update the applications to iOS 8.1

Everything was going fine until it occurred to me to turn off and turn on the iPhone and I got the scare of my life because it stayed on the block and after several attempts I resorted to manual mode to put the iPhone in reset mode.

    I will keep trying.
