Why is the Jailbreak no longer interesting?

I still remember those times between the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 6 when the Jailbreak was almost an indispensable for all of us iOS lovers. In fact, a large part of our editorial was dedicated to all the content that we were discovering in various repositories and amazing new Tweaks.

However, all of this was left behind. The Jailbreak is less and less illustrative and some even venture to say that it is unnecessary ... Why is the Jailbreak no longer interesting? Everything indicates that Apple has managed to manage iOS and everything that surrounds it so that this alternative is less and less attractive for locals and strangers.

The reality is that Apple bears much of the blame, but not all of the credit. The first thing he has done has been add a touch of customization to iOS that has covered many needs that until now were only covered by Tweaks like Activator and other derivatives. Apple has managed to allow, even with quite marked limits, a small glimpse of configuration à la carte, especially since the iPhone 6 notably attracted a good number of users who came from Android. But as we have said before, this is by no means the only reason, and it is that Apple has also worked and very hard to change the way iOS works, making it more and more secure, an almost unbreakable wall, which comes to be one of lime and another of sand.

However, the role of developers and hackers have also had a lot to do with it. In the first place with the proliferation of "freemium" applications that make users reconsider about the need to hack, as well as the constant abandonment by western developers of the jailbreak, which has been practically relegated to the Asian hacker teams that on more than one occasion they have been involved in their positions of violation of privacy, something plausible but not so evident in the older versions of the Jailbreak. The truth is obvious and inescapable, the "hacking" of the iPhone is of interest to fewer and fewer users, and many different factors are to blame for this.

"Because the jailbreak no longer matters" it is not that it does not interest ... it is that Apple blocks all the holes with its weekly betas, if there was a jailbreak for any version ... I assure you that many people would have it, there is still a lot of customization to iOS .
They could also get a jailbreak where only customization is allowed and all piracy outside

Totally agree, there is still a lot of customization left to iOS.

Also add that, as the owner of an iPhone X, you miss it. I explain. New device with another way of use, another screen, etc ... A whole world of possibilities to create tweaks and get even more out of it or "fix" some issues: control, for example, that your WIFI and Bluetooth radios are turned off completely from the Center of Control, that your springboard rotates, that the multitasking apps are closed in a single step ... Among many other examples, such as customizing the tone of WhatsApp (incredible that this option is not yet available).

Another thing is that the method is not reliable, but the desire to tinker, to try new options and ideas from developers are not lacking.
      Long live the Jailbreak.

It is my first iPhone (iPhone X) that I have, I always had Android. And what amazes me the most and surprises me in immense proportions is that you cannot customize the tone of WhatsApp ... come on, not Android Froyo v2.2 Android).
In general, what I do in the absence of iOS is something more customization, I do not ask for everything that Android offers, nor did I use even half of the things I had, but there are things that are enormously surprising in iOS, especially when I I do not find too much technical limitation.
A virtue that in many cases seems to me to be a defect in iOS is the idea of the sandbox of each application, and that communication between them is not possible in a natural way.
For example, if you try to attach a file in Gmail or Linkedin (to give two examples), in the first the options are scarce, based on what you have in Google Drive and in the second there is no option directly. iOS should update its kernel to allow a memory space to be shared between applications, especially when you want to send documents ...
In short, iOS must still (if it ever comes) improve much in more ways even beyond customization options. I did not know it first hand, but Jailbreak I think that if it managed to get closer to those types of options that in any aspiring OS to unseat a desktop OS it should have.

It is possible to change the tone of WhatsApp, I do it all the time.

As standard, no tone from outside the application can be used. If only it could be synced by connecting the iPhone to iTunes ...
I used to replace a ringtone file from the application with a custom one, but I don't know if it is viable yet. Likewise, that configuration should not be so difficult.

I particularly understand that JAILBREAK is making iOS malleable.

iOS is nowhere near the customization that the Jailbreak offered, admitting that they have incorporated a lot of functions, but there are too many missing! many!.

And as the user said above, the jailbreak has become more difficult, because before for Apple to launch an update, it was the hell, not now, they send betas and updates even to fix a time zone in timbuctu.

What seduced me to jailbreak all my iPhones was the chance to customize it. The icons on the screen, the color change of the interface with eclipse, the lock screen with live weather animation. The truth is that I still use ios but it becomes quite monotonous without jailbreak. I hope you come back !!
