Jailbreak, yes or no? That is the question

We already have Jailbreak for iOS 9. Before many of us imagined it, the people of Pangu have surprised us again with a Jailbreak for iOS 9.0, 9.0.1 and 9.0.2. The new tool, Pangu, has already been updated even to fix some bugs, but there are still many users who do not know whether to Jailbreak or not. The time has passed when if you wanted to be something productive with iOS you needed the Jailbreak. Apple has put the batteries and with iOS 9 many of the restrictions imposed on other versions are over. Is it worth doing the Jailbreak?

Reasons not to jailbreak

Pangu still has many bugs

There are many of you who complain about the flaws that Pangu has when it comes to doing the Jailbreak. The process ends but Cydia has not been installed, or you get stuck in the middle of the process and never move forward having to terminate it manually. It's really not a simple jailbreak like those we had a long time ago, in which it was as easy as opening a page in Safari and pressing a button. That time is over and although anyone can Jailbreak by following a good tutorial, the list of steps to follow is long.

Many tweaks are not supported

The jailbreak has taken everyone by surprise, including tweak developers. Like any new version of iOS, despite being aesthetically identical to the previous one, there are many internal changes that make the most interesting tweaks (which are the most complex to develop) need to be adapted to be compatible, in many cases even rewritten from scratch. At the moment the compatible tweaks are few, although it will be something that will be solved in a couple of weeks.

Trojan-china

Security in question

News about iOS vulnerabilities that allow attack by different types of malware are continually happening. The Jailbreak is an open door to these attacks, and more if we consider that almost all of them come from China, precisely where Pangu is developed. It is true that iOS without Jailbreak has also proven to be vulnerable, but Apple solves it with updates, which you will not be able to install while you have Jailbreak. And let's not talk about if you add unofficial repositories, the risks of malware being installed alongside any Cydia package multiply.

iOS 9.1 is just around the corner

The next version of iOS, 9.1, is already in its fifth beta, which means that it will be available very soon. The experience with this new Beta is fantastic: performance improvements, disappearance of lags and an improvement in battery life more than evident. It seems that what Apple promised us would be iOS 9 it has achieved with 9.1. Give up these improvements for the jailbreak? At the moment we do not know if iOS 9.1 will be compatible with the Jailbreak, maybe yes, maybe not, but even if it is, you will be forced to restore and do Jailbreak again.

Reasons to Jailbreak

New features on older devices

Apple has added new features to its newly released iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Its screen with 3D touch technology that allows you to detect the pressure with which you press allows you to do things that you cannot with the iPhone 6, 6 Plus or with any other previous device. However, the Jailbreak has shown that it is possible to add these functions to older iPhones. Although the experience is not exactly the same, Forcy allows you to add a kind of 3D Touch to your "old" iPhone, or PhotosLive to capture the animated photos of Live Photos.

New options on the latest devices

But not only the news reaches the old iPhones, because the options for the new 6s and 6s Plus multiply. Adding new 3D Touch functions, such as the possibility of seeing the weather forecast by clicking on the Weather application icon is just a sample of what Cydia can offer us who have one of the new iPhones.

Outside restrictions

With Cydia installed on your device, Apple's restrictions are over. Anything that cannot be done with iOS can be done if you have Cydia installed. New customization options, themes, new functions, animations ... The options that Cydia offers you are innumerable. If you want to have an iPhone or iPad unlike any other, then this is your choice.

Jailbreak yes or no?

The question then is: to Jailbreak or not? After seeing the different advantages and disadvantages of doing it, each one should assess whether they are interested in doing it or not. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages? Perhaps owners of older devices will have it clearerBecause being able to enjoy 3D Touch or Live Photos without having to buy a new iPhone is sure to be something that attracts you. However, those who have one of the new 6s or 6s Plus do not have it so clear. My personal decision, for now, is to wait.

    Reasons not to jailbreak

    - Pangu still has many bugs: I am sure of it but I jailbroken yesterday night with Pagu version 1.0.1 and I have not had any of the problems you describe. I do not doubt that other users have them but as I say I jailed my iPhone 6 last night without any problem and in other forums that I have visited it cannot be said either, at least with version 1.0.1 of the tool, make it something general.

You say in this section that this is not a simple jailbreak? Man, it is obvious that no other jail was as simple as Comex's but from there to say that this jail is not easy, it is a companion world. It seems very simple to me, connect follow the steps (which are few and very simple) and jail done. If this is not easy, God come and see it, man.

    - Many tweaks are not compatible: Luis man, you are not exactly a novice. This has ALWAYS happened. Not all of us have the same tweaks and at least in my case I have always had this problem, there were tweaks that took longer than others to update or even sometimes their developer would abandon the tweak forcing me to look for another alternative that on several occasions did not even exist and this it has never been an obstacle, at least for me, not to jailbreak.

    - Security in question: Again, this has ALWAYS been like this. ALL of us who do the jail know what we are exposing ourselves to and in the same way that to do so we use a vulnerability in the system, other malicious users can use that open door. But as I tell you this is obvious, everyone knows it, or everyone should know it. That the risk is offset? Well, in my case of course. The only difference in this respect from the last jail to the old ones is that the latter come precisely from the site where the attacks come from, but to make sure the jail is "safe" there are already the American hackers who have certified it so far.

    - iOS 9.1 is just around the corner: I totally agree with you on this. I have never understood why exploits are burned (well yes, for money), before Apple releases an imminent new version of iOS and that it seems that in this case it fixes many bugs of iOS 9. However, and from what I have read by there, apart from the money issue, apparently iOS 9.1 closes the exploits of this jail so it was absurd to save it.

As for the reasons you give us to do it, one may agree more or less but in my case (and each one will have their own, of course), it is not even close. The truth is that the simulated 3D touch does not appeal to me at all. This technology is much more than being able to press an icon and get a contextual menu, this will be wonderful when applications make use of the immense possibilities it offers and I think there is still a lot of time for that, at least for it to be generalized.

The last point is the most important and the one that pushes us to do the jail, the freedom to do with OUR phone what we want and configure it as we want.

I do the jail break for several tweaks that either have not been implemented in iOS (such as Activator which is absolutely essential for me), or that have been implemented badly (such as Swipeselection whose implementation in iOS 9 seems like a disaster to me especially considering that it is something very simple. They have made something that is to give us comfort, something totally uncomfortable). In fact, the only tweak that I will not have to reinstall will be Showcase, but if this is implemented badly, Apple had better dedicate itself to making toasters.

And above all I do the jail to be able to recover the aesthetics of iOS 6 at least in the icons. As I have said on many occasions, Apple lost all its design spirit taken to the highest levels of excellence from the sudden dismissal of Scott Forstall and applying a totally flat design, without nuances, and without anything.

I totally agree with you man.
Do you know of any tweak that converts ios 9 in terms of appearance, in ios 6?
I have ios 7 on an iphone and the most I have found has been the icons of ios 6 and the classic dock

I have the icons taken from an iPad and in some cases retouched by me since the size did not match (I kept my eyes on it because I did it pixel by pixel). As for menus and all that, nothing because I would have to use third-party apps like Winterboard or it would be very difficult to do and I don't have that much free time either.

What I do is as simple as overwriting the icons of iOS 7/9 by those of iOS 6 by hand with the ifunbox. Eye! Only the icons that were in iOS 6, with those that are from iOS 7/9 such as health, advice, etc., I have not done anything because they would no longer be the original ones and what happened, also as these I have them "hidden" They do not see each other, heh, heh, heh.

    Hey.
I've always been a fan of jailbreaking, but for the first time in 6 years now I'm doubting it. For me, one of the main reasons for the jailbreak is the use of tweaks as a virtual home so as not to use the home bot so much ... but now with 3dTouch I have realized that Apple has finally included the passage between Apps natively on the iPhone. tactile. =)
