Macid is one of the applications of the App Store that allows unlock our Mac using the TouchID that the latest iPhone or iPad models are present, thus avoiding having to enter our user password.
Although MacID is very useful and perfectly fulfills its mission, the 3,99 euros that it usually costs made this application too expensive, questioning whether it was really worth its purchase. During the next 48 hours, this negative point will disappear and you can get hold of MacID completely free.
In addition to allowing you to unlock the Mac using TouchID, MacID will also notify us on the iPhone when it detects that the computer has been turned on, offering us the possibility of unlock it remotely, yes, always within the range offered by Bluetooth connectivity. Lastly, the application will also notify you whenever OS X asks for the administrator password.
It is important that you know that MacID makes use of the connectivity Bluetooth 4.0 to unlock your Mac without having to enter the administrator password. The downside of this technology is that not all Macs have Bluetooth LE, limiting their compatibility to the following models:
- MacBook Air from 2011 onwards.
- MacBook Pro 2012 and newer.
- iMac from 2012 onwards.
- Mac Mini 2011 and newer.
- Mac Pro from 2013 onwards.
The second essential requirement to be able to use this application is to have an iPhone or iPad updated to iOS 8 and that the Mac has OS X installed Yosemite.
If you meet all the restrictions to be able to use MacID, now all you have to do is download MacID for iOS and client for OS X to have everything set up in minutes.
It sounds interesting but I don't like having bluetooth always on; and at the end you have to enter a password (either the iPhone or Mac)

Developers should extend the range of compatibility to versions later than 2011 still serve as good teams
They do not do it because they are bad equipment, but because their Bluetooth is not 4.0 and the battery consumption would be excessive.
I thought it would be just pressing the Touch ID, but you have to go to the App, select the device and then access the Touch ID. It costs me much less to enter the password.
Good thing it was free.
