Mail Pilot 2, an update that is still not enough

Mail-Pilot-2

Mail Pilot was born almost 3 years ago on Kickstarter as a new way to manage your email. Since then the application has enjoyed enormous publicity in many specialized media, despite the fact that user opinions have always been quite poor. Announced a long time ago, the new update is finally available that sought to further refine the application and solve some of the bugs that users criticized, but the reality is that it is still far from being worthy of occupying that place that many grant it, much less pay that exorbitant price for it.

Good aesthetics but not very functional

Mail-Pilot-2-1

It must be recognized that Mail Pilot's design is very good, or so it seems to me. Without large pages, light colors, transparencies, sliding menus ... In this regard you can not blame anything. Or yes, because the design seems to have been the main thing when developing this application, although that ends up being a not very intuitive application.

The gestures when postponing an email or archiving it are nothing new. Neither is treating mail as to-do. Even the Mail application on iOS, which many of us like so little, already incorporates these functions. Holding down an email and "throwing" it towards one of the four edges of the screen to send it to the trash, snooze, schedule or archive it can be curious the first time you do it. But not having a button to delete an email when you are viewing it it is unforgivable, as is having to perform several screen taps to accomplish that task.

You also have to make several keystrokes and navigate through different menus to access a folder in your email account. Not to mention that it is difficult to know which account you are in at the moment, or if you are in the unified tray. How to access the menu from the inbox or how to return to the inbox from anywhere else is one of the most praised features of Mail Pilot 2, but the reality is that most of the time what you get is to display the notification center of iOS, since the gesture is practically identical.

A point in favor of Mail Pilot 2 (not everything will be bad) is the way you attach files from different cloud storage services, or even from applications you have installed. They have managed to implement it very well And it is perhaps one of the best features of this email app. Without leaving the application you can add any attachment from the many services and applications compatible with it.

Mail-Pilot-2-3

The application offers some customization options, basically changing the color that accompanies the predominant white of Mail Pilot 2. And within the configuration options we find the push notifications, or rather, the absence of push notifications.

Mail Pilot 2 "boasts" no push notifications for longer battery life. Use the iOS 8 background update to load emails based on your device usage and how you use the app itself. Mail Pilot 2 is an application that, according to its developers, learns from the user. I must be a very bad teacher because he has not learned anything from me. He has never notified me of the arrival of an email, no longer by push, but by means of any notification. It's more, when I opened Mail Pilot 2 I had to wait for the application to update the content to see my emails.

If to all this we add the fact that the application has a regular price of € 9,99 (now as a launch promotion reduced to € 7,99) the final result is without a doubt an application not recommended, especially considering the variety of free applications that perform better, some reaching almost the level of excellence, such as Outlook for iOS.
