Microsoft prepares the launch of Thinga.Me an application to capture and organize real objects

Surely more than one of you has a collection of comics, figures, mobiles, CD's, DVD's, postcards, cars ... collections that you always have in a safe place away from the hands of anyone who could be a potential risk to our valuable collection that we have taken many years to complete.

Microsoft's Experimental Laboratory works regularly in curious applications that do not always see the light. Previously, Microsoft launched an application that allowed users to retouch the skin of the selfies that they could take through the application. This time the application that is about to leave the Microsoft laboratory is called Thinga.Me, an application that allows us to capture objects and organize them.

The application allows us to take photographs of all the objects in our collections to plater organize them within the application. The application uses the "GrabCut" code developed by Microsoft Research to automatically recognize and separate all the objects in the photographs we take, leaving only the lens to collect.

Our lives are full of physical things that interest us… As a team, we have been frustrated that there is no decent application that allows us to digitalize these physical things so that we can later organize and share them with our friends or acquaintances.

Thinga.Me is designed to fill this void. Our mantra for the app is "Collect things, not photos." GrabCut uses a piece of code developed by Microsoft Research about ten years ago, which allows us to eliminate the rest of the capture, leaving only the object in question. This simple act of removing the background of an object gives us the feeling that it is not a photograph to collect, but rather a physical thing. With this starting point we have added backgrounds on which to place virtually all of our collections.

If you want to try this Microsoft application, you can stop by the next link and sign up if it's not too late yet.
