More detailed UK and Ireland maps with Apple Maps testing

Ireland

Apple is a company that is always evolving your devices and applications. It is a constant in all departments of the company, whether developing new versions of hardware or software.

And Apple's native Maps application couldn't be less. Those of Cupertino already warned us at this year's WWDC that the work carried out in the improvement of the maps carried out in the USA would be extended to the rest of the countries. It has already been the turn of Ireland and UK.

Apple has begun testing its update of Maps which brings more detailed information to your navigation system, in a limited number of users who can already test the new maps in the UK and Ireland.

During WWDC 2020, Apple announced that it would bring its improved Apple maps to more countries, expanding the work that has begun with the maps of the United States. Its first international expansion will cover the United Kingdom, Ireland and Canada, and will take place this year.

Testing of the new maps was spotted on August 22, but it appears to only be visible to a very small number of users, with polls pointing to just the 3% of devices Apple that have access.

Apple started its field work in the UK and Ireland in June 2015 with their cartographic vehicles, with the last provinces of each country completed in May 2019.

Analysis of Apple's previous testing of US Maps expansions reveals that it takes between 16 days and 49 days conducting public testing before a final version is released. Given the relatively small size of the UK and Ireland compared to other expanded areas, it seems logical to think that they will take no more than two weeks to roll out to all users.

There are no signs of similar testing covering an update to Canada's maps so far, but it probably won't take long if they want to roll out the new map. this same year.

Along with more detailed maps outside of the US, the Maps update will also include improved bike navigation, improved recommendations for places to visit or eat, and more. For Spain, it seems that things are going for a long time....
