Nomad Base One Max: maximum quality, maximum power

We tested the most premium charging dock you can find right now, for performance, design and quality of materials: Base One Max by Nomad.

When evaluating a charging base there are many parameters to take into account: materials, design, finishes and features. What is the most important point of a charging base? Its power is important, but it depends on what we are looking for, there are other sections that can be even more relevant than the watts of power it has. Today we tested the new Base One Max charging station from Nomad, which no matter where we look at it since it is outstanding in all its aspects.

Maximum power

The MagSafe has been a revolution in the iPhone despite its simplicity, or perhaps precisely because of it. The magnet incorporated in the iPhone and compatible cases has been taken by manufacturers as an opportunity to offer new designs and new possibilities to create more comfortable and versatile charging systems. But let's not forget that the magnet is only part of the MagSafe, since This system allows you to double the charging power, which goes from 7,5W of traditional systems to 15W if we use it.

However, so far very few manufacturers have dared to offer this certification. "Made for MagSafe" which guarantees not only that there is a magnetic hold but also that achieve the maximum charging power of 15W. You will find many “MagSafe Compatible” bases but very, very few “Made for MagSafe”, like this Base One from Nomad. With the first you will have the magnet, with the second the magnet and the maximum possible load.

two better than one

Nomad first launched the Base One, which we have already analyzed here, and now it dares with the Base One Max, which with the same premium qualities and the same style allows us not only to take advantage of the fast MagSafe charge for our iPhone, but also offers us a place to recharge the Apple Watch. All this on a metal and glass base with excellent finishes that take care of even the smallest detail. They have even taken into account the weight of the base to be able to put our iPhone on and off with ease. Because the base magnet is very powerful it has been given a weight of 900 grams, so that we can remove and put the iPhone with one hand without the Base One Max moving a single millimeter. An important detail: the charging disc is raised above the surface of the base, so that the iPhone fits perfectly, no matter the size of the camera module.

While the MagSafe stand is surrounded by glass, the metal Apple Watch stand, finished in the same dark gray anodized finish as the rest of the stand, is encased in super-soft-touch plastic that will protect your Apple Watch from damage. And all this with a single USB-C cable that connects at the rear. You will not need to add any cables, but you will need to add a USB-C charger of at least 30W of power for the base to work. With inferior chargers you will not get less fast charges, it is that it will not work directly.

Outstanding, but not honors

This One Max Foundation is outstanding. The iPhone is placed almost alone on top of the charging disc thanks to the powerful magnet of the MagSafe system, with which you not only achieve comfort for the user who does not have to grope until you find the correct position, but you also allow such an exact placement what energy loss in the form of heat is minimized as much as possible. This allows for much more efficient charging, and for our iPhone to heat up as little as possible, and that ends up being very good for your phone's battery life.

Nomad, however, has been very close to the honors. And it is that Apple Watch charger is not fast, It is normal. From the Apple Watch Series 7 we have fast charging, only in that model and only with a specific Apple charging cable. This allows our Apple Watch to recharge from 0% to 80% in just 45 minutes. With that I would have the highest possible grade, and if they had also added another USB-C port to be able to recharge another device with a cable, it would have been the icing on the cake.

Light years away from Apple's MagSafe Duo, it offers us the same 15W fast charge for being "Made for MagSafe" but with a design and materials that make Apple's base look like a toy.
