Apparently it was an open secret inside the Apple offices in Cupertino and we told you about it a few minutes ago: iOS 17.6.1 and iPadOS 17.6.1 could be a reality soon. And, minutes later, Apple has officially released these two new versions. At the moment the only official information regarding the changes introduced in them are the solution of important security errors related, some of them, to the advanced data protection system of iOS and iPadOS. Software updates for Apple operating systems can be unpredictable. Although Apple usually likes to have a few weeks of testing thanks to the betas of the developer versions, on other occasions the changes are minimal that it is not worth it. This is what happened with these two new updates today: iOS 17.6.1 and iPadOS 17.6.1. At the moment, the only official information we have is the update note:
This update includes important bug fixes and addresses an issue that prevented you from enabling or disabling Advanced Data Protection.
Apparently, Apple has solved some major security bug which will be revealed in the next few hours when the official security website is updated of the new versions. In fact, it details that one of those errors was related to iCloud's advanced data protection, a very interesting function added in iOS and iPadOS to increase security by end-to-end encrypting some iCloud services such as backups, the app Photos or messages from the Messages app. This error, apparently, prevented the possibility of activating or deactivating this additional protection system.
In addition, Apple has also released other new versions today:
- macOS 14.6.1
- iOS 16.7.10
- iPadOS 16.7.10
- macOS 13.6.9
At the moment, these updates have not been revealed by Apple on its official website. If when they do we discover some interesting detail, you will be the first to know about it.
