Optimize battery consumption in iOS 7

Battery

The new Apple operating system has already arrived, and with it a long list of new functions for our devices, some of which are very useful, but cause an increase in battery consumption, so we have to know how to assess whether this higher expense is worth it in our case, so that if not, deactivate the function. We explain the details below.

Location services

Battery-01

More and more applications ask us to access location services, which may not only pose a privacy issue, constantly sharing our location, but also involves the use of resources that represent an extra cost of battery. To have both matters under control, it is best to access the System Settings and look at which applications use it and only activate the ones that we really want to do so, or deactivate it if that is what we want. We can access from Settings> Privacy> Location.

Battery-02

Not only the applications make use of these services, but also the system itself. I know within that menu we enter «System services«, We will see that there are many functions activated, the vast majority of which are not really useful for most users. Personally, I recommend deactivating all of them unless one of them is useful to us.

Automatic downloads

Battery-03

Within «Settings> iTunes Store and App Store» we will find the Automatic Downloads options. Any purchase we make on a device with our App Store account will automatically download on all devices with that same account if these options are activated. This is comfortable, but obviously it involves a significant battery drain. In addition, if it is an iPhone or iPad with a data connection, we will see the option to activate these automatic downloads using that data connection, which is not recommended, not only for battery life, but also for our data flat rate.

Background update

Battery-04

An important novelty of iOS 7 is the new multitasking. Although what has transpired the most is the new aesthetic, there are also new options that developers can use with their applications. One of them is the «Background update», that is to say, that apps can update their data even in the background. Thus, Instapaper can update the saved articles while in the background so that when we open it we do not have to wait for the content to load. A great option for many, but somewhat useless for others and involves a high battery drain. We can configure this function in "Settings>General>Background update", and leave only those applications that interest us, if any.

Obviously there are many other options that we can configure to improve battery consumption: brightness, bluetooth, 3G connection, data connection, automatic lock ... Finding the balance between what the device offers us and what we actually use It is essential to get the most out of it, and not to leave us "stranded" before it should.

On the contrary, my battery lasts much longer ... And I always have the location for the time activated in the notification center. Thats weird.

Why the hell do you use the image (great by the way), from the old iOS 6 stack? You are ashamed to use the new iOS 7, right? Don't worry, I'd give it to me too. What's more, now you can even draw it yourself and you won't have to search for it online. With Paint.Net you can do it in less than 2 minutes.

You really get "picky" sometimes. I have used that image because it seems illustrative, I like it and it seemed to me owed. Nothing else ... You like to get from where there is none.

You know that with respect to you I use irony. By the way, I am not surprised that you like it and obviously more than iOS 7 because it is a trick.

Although the logical thing if you are going to use a battery to talk about the power issue of iOS 7, the logical thing is to put the battery of iOS 7 and not that of iOS 6. See? This is what I mean by the wreck I've done in iOS 7.

iOS 7 at the design level is a trick and EVERYONE knows it. As I have always said, a change is good, but this is not a change, it is a wreck. Before it was a pride to adorn the blog posts with images belonging to the real iOS. Now it must give a lot of stick.

I am weird in a matter of taste, I admit it, but I have to say that I like iOS 7, it saved the odd horrible icon.

Not if you're not weird, the question of taste is very personal and I think it's perfect that you like iOS 7. The problem with iOS 7 is that it is not a matter of taste, that is, if you like it and others do not. The problem is that iOS 7 is to destroy what Apple has always been, a company that sold above all design, design taken to its highest levels. With iOS 7 this premise of Apple has been broken, that is, Apple right now is not even the shadow of what it was because it has broken with what it has always meant.

I am 100% agree with you, when I updated my Ipod I saw the design of the program and I was tremendously disappointed

Do we know of any app that monitors the cost of the battery according to process / app?

      I don't use them, no idea ...
