Last November, the possible arrival of a fingerprint sensor for the Apple Watch came to light and in this case what we have before us is a patent application in which the Cupertino company could include the Touch ID fingerprint sensor in the digital crown of the watch.
It should be noted that this is a patent that comes from Patently Apple like many other Apple patents and in this case what they show is the possibility of unlocking the device with the fingerprint in the part of the digital crown.
In previous occasions we have seen patents that refer to the implementation of the sensor in the physical button of the watch, others in the screen and even some users almost prefer to add the Face ID in the following generations of the watch ... The truth is that all this of the patents is really good and in this case simply by running your finger over the top of the digital crown the watch would already be unlocked, so it could be a really cool and fast way to unlock your Apple Watch.
Nor are we constantly unlocking the watch like the iPhone, for example, so in this case the current unlocking systems are quite adjusted to the needs although it is true that this would change in the case that purchases are implemented «in-app« as leaked in the beta version of watchOS 6.2, functionality that "does require" a somewhat simpler and faster method of entering the PIN.
But we already know what happens with patents and that is that they do not always end up reaching devices in a real way, and in the case of Apple almost everything is patented. In any case, today we have two quite functional options to unlock the watch, which are: via the PIN on the screen or directly by unlocking the iPhone that in this second case it is not necessary to touch the watch at all, so both methods are good.
