The University of Cambridge has taken the development of applications to promote English learning and the Phrasal Verbs is one of the sections that is most difficult to understand. Depending on the preposition that accompanies the verb, the meaning can change completely, therefore, it is very important to learn them properly if we want to speak English correctly.
With the Phrasal Verbs Machine app iPad users will be able to learn how Phrasal Verbs work while being entertained by fun animations that help visually memorize the real meaning of Phrasal Verb.
In order to choose the phrasal verb, we go to the 'Phrasal Verbs View' screen and there we can select the verb next to the preposition you want. Just slide up or down and press the 'View' button to start the illustration. Its duration tends to seem a bit short but if we press on it, it will play again as many times as we want.
Each Phrasal Verb is accompanied by its translation at the bottom. There is also an example of how it is used in English and other meanings so that nothing escapes us. Sometimes a block of text appears highlighted in bold, that means that the use of direct or indirect complement is mandatory with that selected Phrasal Verb.
When we want to put what we have learned into practice, Phrasal Verbs Machine offers us a compilation section of exercises in which they will show us the animations and we will have to select the Phrasal Verb to which it is associated. A sound and a colorful sign will be in charge of notifying us of our success or mistake and both results will be added to the counter of errors and successes.
Although the application interface is always in English (very understandable), explanations indicating the meaning of different Phrasal Verbs can be put in different languages among which Spanish is included. Ideally, if we want to learn English and we have a sufficient level, the explanations are also in that language. Everything that is reading in English will help us to enrich vocabulary.
