Plex is now available for Apple TV 4

Plex-Apple-TV04

El Apple TV 4 Its great novelty is that it has its own Apple Store. Although at the moment there are not many applications, in the not too distant future we will be able to do practically everything (what Apple does not restrict). Something that we can do for a few hours is something that many users would be looking forward to and that is Plex is now available for the fourth generation Apple TV.

For those of you who do not know, Plex allows us to play our multimedia library on practically any device. Of course, the "server" computer will have to be turned on when we are going to play a movie from our library that we will have previously loaded into Plex so that the "client" device can play it. Also, another thing to keep in mind is that you will need an internet connection or else we will not be able to play our movies.

The Plex app is available for download on the fourth-generation Apple TV App Store for free, but its price is a mirage. In order to play streaming content we will have to make a integrated purchase that has a price of 4.99 €. The good thing is that it is a universal application and universal applications are now compatible with iPhone, iPod, iPad and Apple TV 4, so you will not have to pay anything if you had already paid for its iPhone or iPad version.

So far there was an application that was compatible with the libraries that we had loaded in our Plex, but the application that motivates this entry is the official application. Plex was already available on a number of competing devices, jailbroken iPhones, and hit the App Store in recent years. Of course, Plex was not available on any other Apple TV of the three that had been released to date.

Hello, I have a question about the purchase of the Apple TV.
From plex installed on the Apple TV I can access the multimedia files that I have on a normal hard drive connected by USB to my router ???
The hard drive is NOT a Nas just a hard drive connected to the router

    Thanks in advance

No, you must have Plex media server installed on the computer where you have the hard drive connected.

And that mania of being connected to the internet? It cannot be used locally without an internet connection only with a server + router + appletv, well, what a blunder, if the interesting thing was to take it on vacation ...

I doubt it if I need the Internet. There is an option to access the internet by logging in, therefore you need internet, but if you don't use that option you may only need your local network. I'm not sure because I haven't tried it, but it's quite likely.

I answer to myself. You need internet not to access the library, but to login at startup when starting the application only.

Well to have to leave the computer on I see it extremely ridiculous because for that I do airplay directly and I save having plex.

Well, to do Airplay you also have to have the computer turned on and it has more lag ...
