Possible solution to Wi-Fi problems on iPhone 5

Problems with Wi-Fi connectivity on your iOS device should have been resolved with the latest software update from Apple. However, there are dozens of users complaining on Apple forums that they still suffer problems on their iPhones 5.

From Gizmodo report that this problem is not occurring on older iPhones: "When holding the iPhone 4s in one hand and the iPhone 5 in the other, we see that in the first all the Wi-Fi bars are at maximum and in the iPhone 5 the connection drops or disappears." To this information we add that if you experience the same problem with LTE connectivity on your iPhone 5, then go to your Apple store to have the device replaced by a new one.

If the problem is only with the Wifi connection, the solution may be to change the configuration of your router. A large number of users have been able to fix the bug by breaking into their routers and changing the WPA / WPA 2 connectivity to WEP, which is less secure, but seems to fix the problem.

If you do not know how to access the configuration of your router, search in Google for the model of the device you have and the instructions will appear, with the username and password that the brand usually uses as default.

It is not very advisable to change the security of your router, the WEP keys are decrypted in a while. There are already many people who have managed to solve the problem by changing a parameter of their Movistar router without having to change the security. I do not put the link for not spamming, but it is easy to find it by Google.

But what botch is that of having to change the Wi-Fi settings? Apple is showing off.

Well, to say that Apple is showing off, I have the iPhone 5
since the first day and with 6.0 and now I have 6.0.1 I have not
problem, it is more surprising to me how well and fast the terminal works with and without Wifi, I think
that there are many people wanting to criticize, it is my opinion, I apologize if there
    someone who is offended.

Well, I say that you have been lucky, I have had to change it for a new one and even so I still have the same problem, I think there is some incompatibility with the Movistar routers, at least it is my case

If you are one of those who have the “new” Movistar router, the Home Station Amper ASL-26555, and you have an iPhone 5, the loss of WiFi connection will be driving you crazy. Well, in the Movistar forum they have found the solution, and there are already many who have confirmed that it works. To solve it, all you have to do is enter the router configuration (in your browser putting the address "192.168.1.1:8000" (without quotes). When it asks you for username and password, if you have not changed it, they are 1234 in both fields Once you enter the configuration menu, you must go to “Advanced> Wireless Setup> WLAN Performance” and In the “Signal-interval” field, replace 100 with 10, and at the bottom click on Apply to apply the changes.

        To me it has worked.

That is, lower the performance (performance) in a router of a company with 30 computers with Wi-Fi ... Yes, of course ...

I can't believe that the telephone problem is solved by reducing the security of the router… And to buy gasoline we sell the car….

I'm still freaking out about the fact that you recommend changing the Wi-Fi encryption to WEP to "fix" the problem…. But what kind of "technician" has written this article? How is WEP "less secure" than WPA / WPA2 ??? Less safe???? But if it should be prohibited !! It is incredible that you recommend something like that, seriously…. I had this website for something more serious, and with a little more level, the truth ...

Ahhhh of course I have to go to the office, my parents 'house, my friends', in the wifi bar ... asking that they let me enter their router to change the configuration. Very good solution

My 3G service runs out and I have to put the phone in airplane mode and then put it back in normal mode to find coverage. Does it happen to anyone? Any ideas?

But how is the solution to change the encryption to WEP? (which is like having nothing) !!!!! THE SOLUTION HAS TO BE PROVIDED BY APPLE! Fuck iPhone every time I like it less.

I have been following this website for five years.
After seeing the recommendation you make for a connection problem, I regret having recommended articles.
I will not waste my time reading this site again.

Now, now, we are changing to WEP or a parameter of all the Movistar routers that we want to connect to, yes, yes…. The solution is easier, it is what I will do, from my iphone 4s I will switch to the nexus 4, and everything solved

  11.   dungorojas said

Haha. Andale Pablo, you already threw yourself in the middle of the forum for recommending lowering the security of the encryption of the router when the problem is Apple. It's like saying give your house keys to thieves so they don't break your lock

  12.   Javier San Roman said

Thank you dear colleagues for advising everyone to lower security to WEP, this encryption can be decrypted (depending on network traffic) in less than 1 minute, so you can share the internet with any neighbor who knows how to go to google and put .. like get WEP password and download a software and a manual !!! what a fabric !!!

I have directly removed the password and it works very well for me

Hello Javier, I think it is not the best solution because your network remains open….

yes, excuse me .. it was a bit of sarcasm .. just as incredible! 🙂 thanks anyway!

The irony is that you pay 3 times the price of a product because Apple provides security and others do not.

  15.   Sunday Tellez said

Hello Pablo, I thank you for your comments, but I think this time you have not got it right.
WEP passwords are not secure, a simple tracker program with an atheros card is able to find them easily. I remind you that we are responsible for the security of our connection and there are bad people who can use our IP for illegal purposes.
I recommend using a WPA or WPA2 key and also a different one from the initial one that we have pasted on the router. This key is generated by the manufacturer and there have already been cases in which some models have been discovered.
Normally updating the firmware solves the problem. However, if the problem persists, it would be good to create a different SSID with a new key. This may solve the problem because the iPhone no longer uses the previous connection data.
    All the best

I have had an iPhone 3g a 4 and now a 5 (for my wife) but reading this kind of thing already seems to me the height of impudence, because it is no longer that you justify them, you ignore them as if nothing happened !! , You are truly abducted and I think it is something very worrying and that makes you lose all credibility, and I am very sorry to say it because I have been a regular reader of this page for years but I think I have reached the limit of my fanboy comment slots. The day I change platforms is getting closer and closer, I don't know if I want to continue identifying with this type of person carrying the bitten apple in my pocket….

A couple of years ago, for showing my disagreement with some aspects of Apple, they told me that I was resentful that I did not have an iPhone, at that time surely for criticizing this solution they would tell me that I am resentful for not having wifi with wep security . some are already waking up and demanding solutions and are not resigned to accept everything because of their fanaticism.

  19.   Alex said

The truth is that all of you who rajais against this solution seem a bit retarded ...

The problem is that Apple Sucks, and aki report a WorkAround to temporarily solve the problem until Apple deigns to fix it with an update.

But we are going to put a complicated WEP key with a different SSID and if you hurry me with MAC Security, it is not as insecure as keeping the source info.

Another option is that you have the iPhone5, return it or use the 3G period.

There really are people who become fans to the point of being ridiculed.

This Mr. Pablo Ortega always remarks in bold that "Apple is the most important company in the world" and surrenders at his feet. He does not realize that all the fortune that companies achieve is due to customer consumption, and that is the case in any part of the world, that is what the business is about. The problem is when the client is cut down to the point of not wanting to consider other alternatives and surrenders at the feet of a single company and deifies it and praises it and goes so far as to recommend solutions as lacking in seriousness as that of reducing the security of our red and now that we speak out against it, there is not a single comment from Pablito explaining what he wanted to say.

Well, do you know how I fixed the problem? Within the type of the WPA security mode I changed the encryption system from TKIP to AES and with this nonsense the download speed of my iPhone 5 went from 2MB to 19Mb download, I could not believe that because of that nonsense that I would also not have for what influencing the speed were me to solve the problem ..

Hello. I fixed the problem of my connection by changing the standard of the router, I changed it from 802.11g to 802.11n and went from 60 kB / s to 520 kB / s, which is the bandwidth provided by my ISP

  23.   Fabricio said

It is indeed a software problem on the iphone, I solved it by configuring static IP addresses on the iphone but this is not practical but it will play until the update that corrects this bug is released. : S

I haven't seen the word "RECOMMEND WEP" anywhere yet.
It just reports a solution and says: "IT IS UNSAFE."
I don't know, I keep freaking out with people's comments.

I read all the solutions that they pose to this problem, but none of them speak, for example, of when you want to connect to a network that is not yours, but belongs to a bar, a shopping center, a hotel, etc. It has happened to me, from being with people with a blackberry and finds 6 more signals than you around, and the strongest (in this case, the local or hotel) appears with less stripes, weaker. My phone is not, it also happens with another friend who has iPhone 5. Will it be a software problem? I am interested in the subject, I would appreciate your response.

Hello. I have the iPhone 5. The wifi problem seems incredible to me that Apple has not solved the problem, since it is a software problem and they know it. I do not think the solution to having to change security or other solutions they offer with the router seems right ... Well, if you are anywhere that is not your home, you would have the problem, nice grace to have the iphone 5 so that you have this problem ... something that does not happen with the iphone 4 or the 4s ... today talk to the technical support of Apple and told me to try to restore network settings ... If I gave this way, the problem was solved, since having the wifi activated, I do not download videos on YouTube, nor when they send me messages in Whattsa.
    Greetings Javier
