Programs for outdoor athletes

If you like to go running, cycling, skating or any other outdoor sport, this post will undoubtedly interest you.

We are going to talk about several programs that can make your life easier when it comes to going out to practice your favorite sport, and being able to share your results with your friends and keep track of your progress in your own pocket.

RuntasticPro

A fundamental application if you want to keep a personal record of your outings, from which little more can be asked. We just have to activate our locator and start running, and the program is in charge of recording our route, the distance we travel, the average speed, calories and time on google maps. In the options we can ask it to tell us the average speed, kilometers traveled or the time we have been running through the headphones. The bad thing is that, although the program is all in Castilian, the voices are only in English and German, but with having a little idea, it is understood without problems.

Another option that I like is power choose our music to listen to it while we run integrated into the application itself, being able to move between songs or lapses of 10 seconds. The ideal thing is to have the new headphones from the iPod or iPhone and by pressing the next button to be able to pass the songs from the headphones. With the interface, we can add lists, single songs and / or albums. Personally, I prepare in iTunes before a list with softer songs at the beginning and at the end, to start calmer and little by little increasing the intensity of the musical rhythm to transfer it to the legs.

The option that undoubtedly makes it stand out from other applications of the style is the challenge friends to run And even if we are not even in the same country, we will not be able to bite ourselves with the data of our friends at the same time. The voice output informs us with announcements about our opponent's behavior, as well as our own rhythm. He also gives us words of encouragement (in English, yes).

All these data, if we want, will be uploaded to Facebook or twitter, being published on our wall and the people who click on it will be able to see all the data of our race. We can also customize our weight and height for a better calorie calculation. Another thing I like is being able to see, in addition to the route in google maps, the graphs of our performance.

The last option to highlight is to be able to program some workouts for distance and time objectives, partial, distance, time or calories. Also from the App itself we can see a public feed updated in real time of people's activities.

We can see all our records on the website of Runtastic, and we can also enter the data manually in case we do indoor sports.

The app is in Pro version for €4 and in Free, the latter being without the option of the music player, competition with friends or voice output, although it has its own Store where you can buy these options separately.

RunKeeper

Runkeeper

A program very similar to the previous one, with a little more simplicity and fewer options.

We have the option of playing our musical lists, the voice that tells us about our route every 5 minutes (by default), see our data in the program itself on the map, calorie counter, the possibility of taking photos and hanging them on our route, choice of training and share our data on Facebook, as well as being able to manually enter our activities and on the web, even marking the route.

I have used it for a while and I have liked it a lot, but I think that the previous one is more complete and cheaper. It has its free version, but without many of the options such as integration with the music charts, photos or having the times sing for you, but if you want to run and keep track of your athletic progression, the free version will be great for you. . That of paid It costs € 7 and it comes in English.

trailguru

It is the App that I have always used, and that is why I keep a special affection for it, simple and free, on the screen we can see what almost the entire program is, where the data of time, distance, speed, altitude, speed come mean, maximum and latitude and longitude. We can also take photos while we run (only recommended for the day) and we can also see our journey on Maps and upload our data on their website and share it on social networks. Basic but very worthy.

Conclusion

Honestly, I prefer Runtastic Pro as it is the most complete and the cheapest of the paid ones, has its interface in Spanish (not the voices) and is more attractive. In any case, the decision is already based on small details that will surely change with the updates in the long run. Fortunately, we have in all three free versions that if what we want is to simply run and record our results, they will be enough for us. But I personally believe that they sing to me the rhythm that I carry and being able to listen to music at the same time with an internal player, it is something that for physical activity is very interesting.

You, which one would you choose?

Well, comment on it that I got it down and this same weekend to the mountain by bicycle, so I will inform you about how the route was. If it is possible to create a page of the guys from the actualiadadiphone forum to have a group that joins these exercises and thus go on commenting on everything about routes and exercises. there I leave you a hug and burn calories 🙂

Well pulgoso, I am afraid that I do not think it is the right website to create this type of forum so interesting that you say, but we can use this part of the comments to make contacts ...
Have a good time this weekend burning calories! Hahaha

Well, I am a user of this type of application.
Specifically (and since its first versions) of Runkeeper.
For the record, the Runkeeper screenshot is kind of old. The user interface changed for the better. Like the web, where you manage your records in a more than improved Gui.
As news that have not been counted, add that you can enter activities manually, as well as from the web you can be followed online while you are running.
And many more options than to not make a billet I will not count and that can be followed from its site: runkeeper.com
    Runtastic didn't know her.
The one that is growing and is also entirely in Spanish is Strands. Where the portal is also in our language and has a lot of national followers, of course.
    It deserves a mention too.

    Greetings.

Thank you for your comment Jordi,
I'm sorry about the Runkeeper options I didn't put all of them, I already presupposes them a bit but I'll update it to pick this up too, but I didn't want to repeat myself so much.
On Strands I have already downloaded it and to see if the laces allow it, I will try it this afternoon and I will also comment on it.
    Thank you again.

Another that I have been told is very good but that I have not tried yet is Sportypal.

A feature that would be good to compare is the battery that each application consumes, although basically it will be very similar because everything will be taken by the GPS.

I tried Runkeeper Free a couple of weeks ago on a 3 hour bike ride, and it left my iPhone 3GS with 10% battery life.

    regards

I used Runkeeper, but then I switched to Strands. The whole application / portal of Strands is very good. Although now with the update to iOS4 it is a bit slow on my 3G.
In general, at least on my 3G, they leave all the battery shivering from the consumption of the GPS, allowing me to use them for training or short races, up to 2 hours at most.

Runtastic seems similar to Strands, but to change the platform I have to see the advantages clearly, and the truth is, entering the runtastic.com forums and seeing most of them in German throws me back.

Another one that I have not tried: Trailhead, although it looks like The North Face and I suppose it will be more oriented to the mountain.

    Greetings and many km.

Good morning everyone. I have a little doubt for Runtastic users on the Ipod Touch. I have installed the application and it only tells me the speed and distance while I have a Wi-Fi connection (that is, how long it takes to leave the house and get 10 meters away ...) the rest of the time it does not mark anything until I return home and go back to connect to wifi. Does this happen to someone else? Does anyone know how to make me measure my speed and distance without a Wi-Fi connection? thanks to all!
