Re-enable 2G in iOS 8.1

enable-2g

With the arrival of iOS 8.1, Apple allows users to choose between using 2G, 3G or LTE (4G) data technology by the user, however, it also allows operators to block this option, a very common practice among operators telephone company in Spain, in order to force customers to use the type of connection and band that they believe to be preferred. Nevertheless Thanks to the Jailbreak we can solve this problem and re-enable 2G

The companies that in Spain do not allow the user to choose the type of 2G connection are Movistar, Vodafone, Orange and Yoigo. The solution that we bring you to solve it is quick and easy.

We must have the iPhone Jailbreak, we will make a backup copy and to access the phone we will use the iFunbox file manager. ifunbox_classic

  • We access from the PC using iFunBox Classic
  • We enter the route "Var / mobile / library / Carrier Bundle.bundle"

Once here, we copy all the files that we have inside to any folder on our computer's hard drive to ensure a backup copy against any mishap. TOtime we move on to delete the following files from our iPhone, where the letter "X" will be any number that the phone or operator has randomly assigned, we will not pay attention to these numbers.

  • We delete the files «overrides_NXX_NXX.pri »
  • We delete the files «overrides_NXX_NXX.plist »

If we find that we only have one of these ".pri" or ".plist" files that do not panic, there is no problem, we delete that one. Once this step is finished, we restart the iPhone and in the mobile data submenu of the general settings, it will allow us to choose between 2/3 / 4G connections. We remind you that in situations of low coverage the 2G (or Edge) will be enough to receive instant messages or text without reducing consumption since the antenna will not be consuming power to force the connection.

There is no other simpler method? I don't like everything that is gutting the file system and deleting files on iPhone.

  2.   delbuenri said

I deleted the files in question (after having backed up the folder), rebooted and the possibility of choosing between 2/3 / 4G connections did not appear. It has happened to someone else, or it has directly worked for him ... Greetings!

    1.    delbuenri said

By the way, I am testing it on an iPhone 6 Plus.

  3.   kaesar said

Working perfect ... I have followed the steps and turned off the iPhone, once turned on I already have the possibility of 2/3 / 4G.

    Thanks for the tutorial, greetings.

Delbuerni, my terminal is an iPhone 6 from Vodafone .. When I restart it it does not work but when I turn off the device and turn on again if the functions appeared ... I do not know if it has something to do but if it helps you is what I I did.

    A greeting.

    1.    delbuenri said

Correct Kaesar. The same thing happened to me. Finish by trying what you say and allehop, I already have the option. Perfect!!!
I have removed the LTE option from ccsettings so as not to have a conflict as Alfredo says, in another comment, but it is already working ok!
      Thanx again Kaesar.

I have tried it on an iPhone 5 and I have run out of network (Orange). After several hours trying everything I had to restore my iPhone to iOS 8.2 so I lost the jailbreak for nothing😡

    1.    That loser xD said

What a genius you are Jesus and it did not occur to you to make a backup of the file in case that happened and any error occurred you would only have to upload the file again and leave it as it was hahahaha

It works excellent, only it has conflicts with the CCSentings, since when activating the LTE the phone is completely blocked (I expected it to make the change from E to 3G, anyway the CCS does not have the option of E)

  7.   franklin said

God, but having an iPhone without jailbreak is having nothing, in all the forums and articles they only talk about cydia and jailbreak, updating my iPhone has been the worst thing that has happened to me

  8.   David Lopez del Campo said

If yes, having the possibility of connecting via 3G and 4G, I am going to activate the 2g right now

Tested and made from ifile without problems.

For those who lose connectivity because the method fails (which may fail depending on the operator) or because they are bothered by the possible uncertified LTE message every time 4G is turned on (which slows down the system a bit when it passes) there are 2 solutions so that everything returns to normal:
The Carrier Bundle.Bundle folder is generated automatically by CommCenter, if it disappears and you lose connectivity even despite restoring the files you had copied, you must restart the phone repeatedly until iOS generates them by itself, give it normal use and they will return , in case you need the data or the network urgently or the previous method does not work, there is a tweak that will restore the data at the moment, it is called «CommCenter Patch» and it is available in the repo «apt.chinasnow.net/» .

Hello! I did a few months ago the process to have 2G on iPhone 6 iOS 8.1.2 from Orange and it worked perfectly. But yesterday I reset settings and I have no data. In my attempt to leave everything as before, I deleted a file from the "Carrier Bundles" folder instead of "Carrier Bundel.bundle" the file is named like this "device + carrier + 21403 + N61AP". How can i fix this? I have tried with the tweak you say but I can't get it back: '(Thanks

      1.    Aday said

        Hello Gorka.
Forget that tweak because I tried it with it and was unsuccessful. In the end, searching and searching the internet, I found a website where I could download the "entire" folder of carrier bundles and with that I was able to leave everything as it was and then be able to go back to doing the process of deleting my overrides_N56_N61.plist.
I'm going to try to find the address again and I'll pass it on to you.
Do not despair, I was about to restore to iOS 8.3 and lose the jailbreak with it, D

          Here you have it: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/30964659/iPhone6CarrierBundles.zip
Enter with ifile and copy its content where all the operators appear. This way you will leave everything as it was.
You can also search "only" for the file you need and restore it. For that you will have to do it from the iphone itself because if you do it from your mac or pc you will see that the files are only containers. In the ifile you can open those containers and look for the file in question that will be in the folder that corresponds to your mobile operator.
          Regards and good luck.

2G, for what? The mobile looks for the network that can be better.

In my case I did it because the region where I was working had a problem with the signal, the team identified that there was a 3g signal, but it did not work at all, and since I could not go down to 2g when I reached that area I was left with a paperweight over the phone, this was like that for about 4 months until I came up with this solution.
This happened only to those of us who had iPhone ... and it was especially annoying because we had to make this movement when we got to work, and when we left, do it one more time to be able to have 4G.

In Mexico about a year and a half ago I carried out this method with Telcel and it works halfway, since it only allowed changing from 2g to 3g (eliminating LTE).
Today I do it with movistar and it completely frees my functions.
I should mention that it is a free device, an iphone 5 with ios 8.1.2

  13.   iKhalils said

    @Juan Colilla
Thanks for the TIP, I already got LTE back with Telcel

I also did it with the Telcel operator on a free iPhone 6 with ifile and apart from giving me the possibility to choose the connection I want ... I have a 3 g and gas plan and before when I finished them they slowed me down but with this method it seems that They no longer cut it for me and I have 10 g and gas and it continues with the speed that LTE or 4g gives, they do not cut it, I say in case someone is in my situation to try it. Greetings and thank you !!

Working perfect on an iPhone 5 with iOS 8.1.2. Activated the three modes without problem and, after several days of using it, I estimate that the battery improvement can be measured between 10 and 15%. Too bad there is the incompatibility with CCSettings that Alfredo comments or with FlipControlCenter that I have come across ... Any ideas about a tweak that allows you to activate / deactivate LTE without having to select it in Mobile Data of the iOS settings? Greetings and thank you very much for this great tweak !!

    Hello everyone.
I have done this method and it has worked for me but now I have had a problem and wanted to restore my copy of overrides_N56_N61.p
and it turns out that the copy I made was of the link to the folder but not of the file in question. Could someone who has a copy of said file provide it to me? It would be for the Movistar company and the file is inside the folder /Telefonica_es.bundle/ overrides_N56_N61.plist
I have tried everything but I can not find the solution and logically the only thing that would remain is to restore, losing the jailbreak of course.
    Thanks in advance.

In the end I have found the file in question. Thank you anyway. All the best

For those of you who think that because we want those options in our iOS, it bothers me a lot because my operator gives access to 4g and my phone changes to it even if I deactivate it. I would like the system to allow it natively, because the 4g option is activated alone but due to lack of signal it stays on 3G and it generates connection problems every time I open an app type WhatsApp.
