Review - Myst

A few days ago we echoed the launch of the famous game Myst for iPhone / iPod Touch.

If you want to know more details do not miss the analysis of this game by the team of Actualidad iPhone.

myst1

For those who do not know what or what it is about Myst let's go on to explain it. First of all, comment that it is a game originally created for PC, with more than 6 million copies sold throughout its history. With these numbers, it managed to be the best-selling computer game of all time for just over a decade, dethroned by The Sims in 2002.

myst3

In summary, and leaving the numbers aside, the game represents a graphic adventure in which we will play a character in charge of traveling around the island of Myst with the help of a magic book. We can visit other worlds, as well as reach different end of the game. Therefore, Myst represents a completely open-ended type of game, in which our story will depend on the actions we take during the game.

myst2

The only drawback that we can think of this game has is the small size of the screen of our device, since it is a graphical adventure. These types of games generally require slightly larger screens to play comfortably. We will notice the small screen size when we are in front of some puzzles, where the buttons to be operated are really small.

myst4

This version of Myst for the iPhone / iPod Touch includes all the "Eras" (phases), as well as the playstyle of the original. For those who know the game a little, in relation to the books that we will be collecting along the way, there has been a change with respect to the original game. In order to adapt the pages to the screen of the iPhone / iPod Touch, the game incorporates a very useful zoom mode.

myst5

As for the movements during the game, these are simple. We will simply have to touch on the screen where we want to go, and that's it. If we want to change the viewing direction, dragging our finger horizontally to the left and / or right will suffice.

myst6

In general, the game is very faithful to its original PC.

myst7

Of course, we have to mention the eternal problem of this application: its size. It takes up a whopping 727 Mb, about the same as a CD-ROM. (The synchronization through iTunes was eternal ...)
However, that is explained by the amount of textures that make up the game. The graphics, as you can see in the images, are taken care of to the limit. What's more, they have been improved with respect to the original to take advantage of the full potential of the iPhone / iPod Touch graphics engine.

myst8

Another of the very careful aspects of the game are the sounds. These have been recreated to be as similar as possible to the original.

Regarding the game options, we will be able to control the volume of the game as well as the speed of transition of the texts and animations.

myst9

On the other hand, the people of Cyan Worlds, the game's developer company, have included an option that will save our game automatically, without having to be aware of it. In this way, if an incoming call suddenly appears on our iPhone, the game will be saved automatically.

myst10

Finally, let me know that in the options part we have a button for tracks that will come in handy on certain occasions.

Below you can see a video demonstration of the game in action:

One last thing: for those of you who play with a first generation iPod Touch, use headphones, as some of the puzzles in the game are based on sounds / music, and without them, there is little you can do.

You can buy the game directly in the AppStore from this link: Myst

at a price of € 4,99. If you liked the game for PC, do not hesitate to get this version.

I hope you enjoy the game, and do not hesitate to tell us what you think.

The whole roll of the game is very good but what remains to be said is that it is a shame that a game that has been sold so much is only in English and that because it is not like other games that a little English is solved it is impossible to play to this game without a very high level of English. Will you plan to release it in Spanish one day?

I agree with you Mario, but what are we going to do? That is an idea that depends on the developer company.

We hope they will translate it, but in the meantime we can only "settle" with what is in English, which, to be honest, is not bad at all.

    A greeting.

Well, indeed, the first big hit: the happy English and my damn ignorance. 🙁

I was going to put that ... both analyze the game and leave the most important thing XD the language

But let's see ... why don't you learn English ??? I believe that one must adapt or die and today, with the internet and all the technology at our fingertips, English is essential even to have an iPhone. WE HAVE IT EASIER THAN EVER.

    LEARN ENGLISH!

And if tomorrow we have to learn Chinese, let's learn Chinese !!!!

Adapt or die! IT DOES NOT COST THAT MUCH

Administrators, I believe that I have not disrespected anyone asking them to learn English at once and I have just been publicly insulted in your media. I think this is a crime under the penal code, so please remove the comment.

TheSoul, if I have offended you in something, learn English.

    In another vein.
I think this country with languages is pathetic. Both indoors (40 years of Franco did not end Catalan-Valencian, Basque and Galician) and outdoors,… What percentage of Spaniards speak a 2nd / 3rd language? Any Slav speaks more languages than the average Spanish… on the street.

    Pepper Oni,

The comment has already been deleted. However, I don't think this is a site where we have to debate whether or not it is appropriate for us to learn a language, simply because a game is only available in English.

In the same way that there are people who like to learn languages, there are people who do not feel like learning a new one. Everyone is free to do whatever you want. Of course, without disrespect.

From now on I ask you to use the comments section to express your opinions regarding the topic that is discussed in the post, and not regarding topics that have nothing to do with it.

    A greeting.

Thanks. I understand what you explain Aleja, but it is also true that many times one can be indignant without insulting and sometimes the issues evolve. Maybe that day I wrote with a bit of virulence, but that's how long.

But let's see Peper Oni, I, in my case, am the first who thinks that you have to learn English, since I have been in Ireland for almost a year, but this is a simple forum to give personal opinions on things, if so much annoys the opinions of others, then do not give yours, believing that it may or may not be pathetic in Spain. If someone does not want to learn anything in order to do things better, then this is it, no one is pathetic for anything and much less for what you believe. Preach by example. By the way, as you told TheSoul… If I have offended you in something, learn to be a better person.
