How to send messages with invisible ink in iOS 10 Messages

Invisible Message Ink

As it happened in 2015, one of the most interesting news that will officially arrive tomorrow with iOS 10 is the new application Messages, also known as iMessage. In the United States it is used much more than we can imagine, so much so that WhatsApp is not such a famous app there, but in countries like Spain it is not used so much, which is why it is easy to not know how to do some things like send messages with invisible ink.

Sending messages with invisible ink in iOS 10 is along with other options that are also new in the iOS 10 Messages app, such as send the strongest message bubble or speech bubble, slowing down or yelling. In the same way, we can also access the Background tab, from where we can send messages with special backgrounds such as confetti, which will help us to congratulate the new year, a birthday or any important event.

How to send special text in iOS 10 Messages

Actually sending special text in iOS 10 is very simple. We will only have to follow these steps:

  1. First of all, we will have to enter the text that we want to send in a special way. When we start writing, the arrow will appear to the right of the box.
  2. In an iPhone 6s / Plus (and soon from the 7 / Plus), we press on the arrow a little harder, which will enter the options to send the text in a special way. If our device does not have a 3D Touch screen, all we have to do is press and hold our finger on the arrow for the options to appear.
  3. Now we choose how we want to send the message, from where we can choose "Invisible ink" to send the text as the headline of this post says.
  4. The last step no longer depends on us, but on who receives the message: to be able to read what is under the invisible ink, you have to slide your finger over the bubble.

Easy, right? The truth is that I quite like Messages and it is the messaging application that I use with all my contacts who have an iPhone. And you?

Not available on iPhone without 3D Touch?

I write this point as part of updating this post. From what you comment (thanks for the warning), it seems that this option not available on iPhones without 3D Touch. Yes, it is available on the iPad and the possibility is not exclusive to the latest models.

At the moment, the latest available version of iOS 10 is the Golden Master, that is, a version that must be the same as the one officially released tomorrow. If it is confirmed that the iPhone without 3D Touch will not be able to use this function, we would be facing a ugly move by Apple in which if we want to use the new function on the phone we will have to own or buy one of their latest iPhone, the device that brings the most benefits to Tim Cook and company. In other words, it would be like an "invitation" to renew the iPhone, despite the fact that it has been shown that the function works perfectly without the need to press harder. Users of an iPhone 6 or earlier can only pray that this changes starting tomorrow.

UPDATED: A friend with an iPhone 6 has confirmed to me that this invisible ink does work for him, which is a strange thing. On the other hand, I cannot send GIFs from iMessage, neither on the iPad nor from the iPhone, when others can. We will see if Apple solves all these absences tomorrow from 19.00:XNUMX p.m. (Peninsula Spain).

I do not have the option to send messages in a special way, no matter how much I hold down the arrow after writing the text, I do not know why it will be

    1.    Paul Aparicio said

Hi Ricky. Are you on iOS 10? If you have an iPhone 6s / Plus, you have to press harder. It does nothing if you hold your finger.

      A greeting.

Hi guys, a bit absurd question (I think) iMessage is only FREE between iPhones, right? I mean, if I want to use this app to send sms to Android phones, my company would charge me for the sms, right?

    Thank you

    1.    Paul Aparicio said

Hello, Aitor. It is free between Apple devices, since there is also an application for macOS and for iPad. But yes, it is only free if it is sent to an Apple device. If it is sent to any other phone, as it does not have the same application, the SMS or multimedia message will be charged.

      A greeting.

Voucher! I have already discovered why it did not appear on my iPhone 6. I had the Reduce motion option found in Settings-> General-> Accessibility activated.

I have already discovered why these options to send messages with effects did not come out. It was because I had activated the "Motion reduction" in Settings-> General-> Accessibility.

Hello, if it is available for those of us who do not have 3d touch, I have an iPhone SE, and what you have to do is have the send icon pressed a little bit (blue with arrow above) and the options come out.,… They tell me 😉

I have an iPhone 6 and if it works, instead of tapping the blue arrow hard in the text box, just hold it for a few seconds and that's it.

  20.   Nashaly said

So that you can use the invisible ink you have to have the iMessage active and that's how it will come out.
    Hope it works for you.

iphone 5c if there is the function of sending special texts, you just have to be aware that it is activated only with apple devices if they send to another device they will not be activated

  23.   loyle said

I have sent an iMessage with invisible ink, and in the end it has sent it to me as a text SMS. It then depends on how the recipient's iPhone is configured, right? If you have activated the reduce movement ... we go wrong. Is that so or what happened then? Thanks
