SlowCam allows us to record at 60 fps on our iPhone 5 / iPad Mini

Slowcam

When Apple announced that the iPhone 5s came with the ability to record slow motion video, I thought the same as many iPhone 5 users. Why can't I on my iPhone 5? We are not going to get into the usual controversy, planned obsolescence? It is an iPhone 5 and is only one year old. The most normal excuse is the usual one, is that the processor that it has does not support recording video in slow motion. Let's leave the topic.

For users of the iPhone 5, 5c and iPad Mini we have the possibility to record at least 60 FPS. For that an application has come out to the App Store called SlowCam - Real Time Motion Video Camera. With this new app my frustration fades, at least a little. I no longer need to change the iPhone (as long as the screen size does not change I will stay in the same model), you only need to update the iOS to the latest version. And this application obviously.

Slowcam

The handling of this application is very simple. As soon as it is executed, the video from the camera is activated. To record we just have to press the red button. SlowCam will record in a higher resolution than the iDevice has:

  • iPhone 5s: 120 FPS.
  • iPhone 5, 5c and iPad Mini: 60 FPS.
  • All other devices will record 30 FPS.

While you are recording, press the button on the blue snail, located just above the record video button. When you want to return to normal speed, click on the snail again. You can change the settings so that instead of pressing the blue button to start slow motion, you have to hold it down just the moment you want to record at a different speed.

Slowcam has zoom up to 5x on the iPhone 5, 5c and 5s. The + and - buttons will appear on the left of the screen to use it. You can also turn on the camera flash if the lighting conditions are not very good for recording. This button is just below the red record button.

In case I didn't have enough options, we can also set focus and exposure independently. By pressing on the screen two crosses will appear. We drag the one corresponding to the focus towards the subject so that it is in focus and the other one we take it to the area where we see that the image is neither too dark nor too light, always aiming at the subject to be recorded.

Slowcam

In the same video you can record as many times as you want in slow motion. For example, if you are recording animals, it is to use it when you are going to jump or run

When you finish recording, the videos are sent directly to the iDevice reel and you can share them via SMS, email, Youtube, Facebook, Vimeo or iCloud.

A different way to record videos.
