Snapseed is updated for iOS

The application (owned by Google) for image editing, Snapseed, was updated last Wednesday in the App Store with a trio of improvements that the new version of the application brings. The first change affects the user interface to make it easier and easier to select and change filter parameters. The second novelty is, basically, a dedicated tool that was launched on Android some time ago and that allows you to adjust the white balance of the images. Finally, the last added feature is a fix for the development of RAW files with built-in color profiles.

In addition to swiping up and down to adjust filter parameters on images, you can now also click the adjust icon on the bottom bar to bring up a parameter selector for the selected filter. The selected parameter is always displayed with a slider at the top of the screen. As before, you can also slide left and right anywhere on the image to make adjustments. On the other hand, the dedicated white balance tool allows you to adjust colors in the images to obtain a more natural look: you can use the auto-correction option or make changes with the included color picker that allows more precise control over the option.

Finally, when opening RAW images that have been captured with different camera settings, Snapseed will now display the default RAW colors. Google indicates on this that until now, the "integrated color profiles limited the creative options at the time of later editing RAW files". Snapseed supports RAW image editing on iOS 10 devices, with support for RAW files from 144 different camera models. RAW allows you to work with the original image data as it was captured by the CMOS sensor before any post-processing occurred on the photograph. This, which allows is unmatched precision while appreciating details that surely did not even know existed. For example, changing the exposure on a RAW image file in Snapseed has an effect comparable to adjusting the settings within the camera electronics.

With RAW in Snapseed, you can lighten shadows, recover lost highlights, add structure and detail from the original RAW data, apply fine white balance adjustments to RAW data, and much more.
