Troubleshoot AirDrop on iOS 8 and Yosemite

AirDrop

AirDrop is one of the main novelties of iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite. Although it was a feature of previous versions of Apple operating systems, it is the first time that both systems communicate with each other and you can send or receive files from your iPhone or iPad to your Mac and vice versa. In theory it works fast, it is very easy to use, and it is a great advance for those of us who use iOS and OS X, not having to resort to third-party applications to share files. But the reality is that AirDrop between iOS and OS X works quite badlyDespite having compatible hardware and supposedly not requiring any configuration to activate it, many users have many problems to make it work properly.

I just bought my iMac "Late 2013" with the Yosemite beta and my iPhone 5 with iOS 8 I didn't have the slightest problem getting it to work. However with my iPhone 6 Plus, when updating to iOS 8.1, AirDrop suddenly disappeared never to return. I could use it between iOS devices, but never between my iPhone and my Mac. Neither with my iPads or my old iPhone 5 updated to the same version of iOS. At this time it is comforting to see that you are not the only one with the problem, because the forums are full of users complaining about the same failure, with many solutions, but only one of them worked for me, and that is the one that I will explain to you.

icloud-mac

The first thing to do is remove your iCloud account from your Mac. Do not worry because all your contacts, calendars and other data will be stored in the Apple cloud, and as soon as you reactivate the account on your computer, you will have them as they were before deactivating it.

iCloud-iPhone

We have to do the same on our iOS device, and I tell you the same as before, do not worry because you do not touch the data from the cloud, just You delete them from the device to recover them later without problems. Once both iCloud accounts are deactivated, we restart both devices, and when they are active again, we enter our iCloud accounts again on the computer and on the iPhone or iPad.

AirDrop-Mac-iPhone

Suddenly, as if by magic, both on my Mac and on my iPhone AirDrop worked again as it should, or almost, because the user's photo (myself) does not appear correctly, but that would be too much to ask. Let's hope that Apple solves this problem with AirDrop that is giving so many headaches to users of its new operating systems, because it is one of the most useful and interesting functions and it is a pity that its operation is not correct.

Luis, I also have problems between the MBP (mid 2012) and my iPad mini. It is strange, because I can send from the mac to the iPad (the latter appears locatable from the finder / airdrop) all the files that I estimate, but from the ipad I cannot locate the mac.
        Weird everything.

If it works, you just have to turn on the airdrop on the two devices and waiting for them to be recognized can take a little more than a minute.

Totally agree. Sometimes it is luxurious and other times there is no way for them to recognize each other, when a few hours before they did. It's kind of pretty maddening.

Airdrop files between mac and ipad or iphone impossible task. At no time have I managed to do it. Of course, between the ipad and the iphone everything is cool. They don't let the poor macbook pro play.
If anyone finds a solution that does not have to do with what has already been mentioned, publish it. Please.

Before my iphone 6 software was updated to version 8.4.1, I had no problems
to send data from my MacBook pro to my iphone. Now I can only do it from the Mac
to the iphone and »not from my iphone to my Mac. How can I solve this problem?

To see Airdrop on your Mac, you must be in Finder and in »go» click and it will be displayed towards
Below are several options, including Airdrop. Click on it and a window will open with the Airdrop.
On the iPhone, you have to scroll the main window up with your finger.
Airdrop icon and to activate it you must press it once and where it says »for all» activate it.
I have already done it several times and still I cannot send a photo from my iphone 6 to me
MacBook Pro. Yes, I can transfer photos from Mac to iPhone. I have contacted Apple (USA) remotely directly, they have entered my Mac and not even they can
tell me what the problem is. As an engineer I know they have a problem with the frequency of the impulse that is given to Airdrop on the iphone.
They have been able to solve this problem in the »engineering« part, but I still don't have
    answer.

Claudio Hello, I have read your concern regarding the Airdrop function with which it could be sent and
receive data, photos, etc. from a Mac and an iphone 6 vice versa. I have a Mac from 2013 and an iphone 6 and out of curiosity I upgraded from Yosemite to »El Capitan«. The same thing happens to you, that is, I couldn't send data from one drive to another so I opted to go back to Yosemite 10.10.5 and it works for me as it was before, but with some nasty surprises,
for example, that the screensaver appears behind the pages in a diffuse way.
I have wanted to throw away everything Apple, since they are only interested in doing business to the detriment of the user. I hope to be in contact with you through email.
