Spotify May Offer Lossless High Resolution Music Soon

Spotify could already be testing new options for its streaming music service that will allow it, on the one hand, to increase its profits and, on the other, to differentiate itself from Apple Music, its most direct rival. Apple's streaming service continues to grow and Spotify does not want to continue giving ground, for which it could begin to offer its users music in High Resolution, without losses, something that at the moment only Tidal offers and that would be a plus for not only getting more clients but also for some to abandon free accounts and switch to a paid account. But this change could come with a different quota than normal, obviously.

Spotify and Apple Music do not stop increasing their share of users, which shows that streaming music still has a lot of margin and that one service does not have to eat the other, but that they can coexist perfectly. But you have to keep improving and above all increasing your income. Despite having a very large user base, only a part of them pay for the service, and the advertising of free accounts is not capable of generating enough money to make them profitable. One way to earn more money with each client would be to offer a Premium account with music without loss of quality, High Resolution, with an estimated price of € 20 per month. This figure is twice what the normal account now costs, and it is clear that Spotify will not cost twice as much to broadcast music in high resolution, so it would earn more money with each Premium account.

Normal or lossless music

What is the difference between "normal" music and lossless or High Resolution music? So that the music takes up less space on your hard drive and so that downloading it does not involve much expense in your data rate, it is compressed, and that means reducing the quality of it. Hi-Res or lossless formats offer music "as is", with higher quality to enjoy in headphones that are of course capable of transmitting that sound. There is no point listening to lossless music on EarPods, not even AirPods, nor does it make sense to listen to 3kbps mp128 files on "premium" headphones.

But not only do you have to take this into account, it is also important to know that high-resolution music takes up much more space, reaching in the most extreme cases to suppose more than 60MB for every minute of audio. To give us an idea, Spotify now broadcasts music at 320kbps, and with this format, one minute of audio usually occupies about 2MB of space, 30 times less than the previous one.. This difference when it comes to listening to streaming music using your data rate is more than relevant, as is what your downloaded library can occupy on your smartphone to listen to it offline.

With all this, the doubts about the success of this new service with a price that would be double the normal price are already raised.. But we are simply facing a rumor that we do not know if it will come true, when it will or at what price.

I suppose that to "High resolution" music you must refer to High Fidelity music, or what is the same as HI-FI, since the music has fidelity, which refers to a faithful reproduction of the original, the resolution, is something that refers to videos or images, is like saying that 24MegaPixeles songs will be able to be played ... it has no logic ...
