Take your iTunes library to an external drive

iTunes-Library-01

Have our library of iTunes well organized is laborious and time consuming. All our music, movies, series and applications, with their covers, information, etc. it is a treasure that must be taken care of. For this reason, it never hurts to know how to take that library to some other location, such as an external hard drive, or a flash memory, either to be able to enjoy it on other devices or to create a backup, you never know what it can happen with the hard disk of our computer. It is really very easy to export all our information to another location, and even configure iTunes so that from that moment it works with that new location. We explain it step by step

Export our entire library to external storage

The location of our library is usually in the following route:

  • Mac: / Users / (your username) / Music / iTunes
  • Windows XP: C: Documents and SettingsusernameMy DocumentsMy MusiciTunes
  • Windows Vista: C: UsersusernameMusiciTunes
  • Windows 7: C: UsersusernameMy MusiciTunes
  • Windows 8: C: UsersusernameMy MusiciTunes

Within that path we can locate the folder «iTunesMedia»Which is the one that contains our entire library. We just have to copy and paste it in the location where we want to save it and we will have a complete copy of it.

Change the location of the library to the new path

Perhaps you have made the copy to use it on another computer, or simply to have a backup copy. You may also have decided to move the library to another location because it was taking up too much space on your computer. You can easily configure iTunes to use that new location in a very simple way. Access the program preferences, and in the "Advanced" tab, click on "Change", select the new location where you have the library and accept. From then on, iTunes will work using that new path.

Hello. I have the iTunes library on my PC, but I want to move it to an external DD, not the iTunesMedia folder, which I already have, but the library to keep the number of reproductions, ratings, etc.
    How can I do.
