Testing the Apple Watch under water [video]

Much controversy and confusion created Tim Cook in his statements stating that the Apple Watch holds a shower or when we wash our hands. Doubts because from Cupertino, later, they say that their smartwatch I would only take splashes and later they confirmed that it arrives with IPX7 certified. His statements contradict what the certificate tells us.

El IPX7 certified is achieved when a device is capable of hold for 30 minutes under water at a depth of 1 meter. Conditions much harsher than the ones the CEO of the Bitten Apple told us from the beginning.

In Australia, a team called fonefox has already put the Apple Watch to the test in the water to clarify once and for all to what extent its resistance in this field reaches. According to the team that did the tests, the endurance of the Apple smartwatch is much greater than we all think initially both by Cook's statements and by the description on the Apple Store website.

The tests include putting the Apple Watch, of which the chosen one was the Sport model, En a shower with soap included. Later, they introduce it into a bucket full of water and finally they did the test by getting in and swimming in a pool for 15 minutes.

Logically, we are all much more interested in the last test, which is the one that may concern us the most. As you can see in the video that heads this post, the clock screen turns on without any problem but, as expected, tactile feedback does not work (yes it works when returning to the surface) for its characteristic capacitive. What yes it works without any problem is the Digital Crown.

I am left with the desire, although I understand that they do not want to take the risk, that they had done the test for a longer time to see the result. A 30m bath is fine, but there is a possibility that we relax for a longer time and we do not know for sure what would happen in that case. And it also comes to mind when I was a teenager and spent hours and hours playing in the pools. With the old common watches I would spend an afternoon in the water without any fear. With the Apple Watch… we don't know.

Apple's statements regarding the water resistance of the Apple Watch make sense. The reason why they do not recommend us to use the watch to swim is that there is a possibility that it will break down and what Apple is most interested in (although I know you are going to tell me that it is money) is that users do not have problems with your devices and that we have a satisfactory experience. This is why they want to "protect" our watch recommending us not to submerge it.

They do not recommend wearing the watch to swim at high depths due to pressure issues. Any watch today that is submersible but not professional (and that maintains the factory water-tightness without having changed the battery in a Chinese) can withstand hours and hours in water and well deeper than a meter (at least about 7 u 8, which is what I usually dive).
