TextEdit appeared in a demo of iOS 10 at the last WWDC

TextEdit in iOS 10

Although when we are named WWDC we all think about the first keynote, the event lasts 5 days. During those 5 days they continue to present news for developers and in the first part of "What's New in Metal", Apple used an iPad to display the API graphics of the adaptive mosaic skills of iOS 10. The funny thing is that, during this demo, the iPad shows what you have in the following screenshot: a TextEdit icon, the text editor for OS X (recently renamed to macOS).

TextEdit is Apple's basic text editor but, although it already something similar was seen in iOS 8, there is no version for iOS. At that time, in 2014, a «Preview» icon also appeared, an Apple all-rounder that allows you to play any type of file and that I use with the Workflow application, for example, to make GIFs come to life as they should to have.

Will we have TextEdit in iOS 10?

TextEdit in iOS 10

If you asked me, taking into account what we already saw in 2014, I would bet because we will not see TextEdit in iOS 10. Although it is not exactly the same, we already have the Notes application installed by default and Pages, which is more complete, as a free option since 2013. Also, curiously, the TextEdit icon appears just below the Game Center icon, something that is not available in The first beta of iOS 10. Most likely, the previous capture is from an Apple development iPad, that is, an apple engineer who likes to write his text or code in an application similar to the one there installed by default in MacOS. Apple is known to have various applications just for software engineers and employees.

As always, to get out of any doubt we will have to keep waiting, at most until September, at which point iOS 10 will be officially released.
