"The App Store turns 10", the Apple article

Apple introduced the App Store on July 10, 2008, making it ten years old today. and, so that we do not forget what it has supposed, Apple has published an article about her.

Instead of writing numbers or explaining the evolution of the App Store, Apple has wanted to highlight eleven achievements of these ten years in a long and very interesting article.

Apple talks about the phenomenon "There is an app for that". A phrase that we got tired of hearing, at a time when developers saw a blank canvas thanks to the App Store and the iPhone.

Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president, says "In its first decade, the App Store has surpassed the wildest expectations - both what developers have been able to create, as well as the reception of users - and this is only the beginning".

They also mention the phenomenon "Mobile-first", whereby companies focused, or worked exclusively, on mobile platforms. From games that are born and live on mobile phones, to apps that saw the light directly in them, like Instagram.

Of course, there is mention of games. The App Store and the iPhone create a perfect environment for all kinds of games and even the oldest video game companies around, like Nintendo, have created games for the iPhone (and they have benefited from it).

They also talk about how the App Store has created new business models, new ways to obtain content, enjoy it and pay for it. We are talking, of course, about subscription models and content services in streaming that were born (or, at the very least, have grown up) on mobile devices.

There is no shortage of mentions of health, sports, educational apps and how apps have been able to reach all users, regardless of who you are.

And, although still in a premature phase, Apple makes it clear in its last point that it is strongly committed to Augmented Reality apps and it augurs a promising future for them.

Personally, it has been 10 years that have passed very quickly. The App Store has evolved a lot and We have been so surprised by the variety of apps that today it seems that it has the opposite effect, nothing surprises us. From being impressed by an app that simply reproduced the sound of a whip when moving the iPhone or drinking a beer from our iPhone, to being able to see a virtual Lego world with our iPhone or playing Star Wars holo-chess, it seems that no longer nothing remains to be seen, but the next ten years will undoubtedly impress everyone.
