The Apple Watch will use the Wi-Fi connection to connect to the device if Bluetooth is not available

Apple-watch-heart

As the days go by, we find out more news about the operation of the Apple Watch. We have previously confirmed that the Apple Watch will not be submersible but will be water resistant, since it only has IPX 7 certification. We have also learned that the Apple Watch battery can be replaced without any problems.

If you are Pebble users or have a smartwatch with Android Wear, you know that the connection between our Smartphone and the device is made via bluetooth only. When we move away from the device, depending on the elements that are between it and us, the connection will take more or less to get lost.

The Apple Watch solves this problem by connecting to our iPhone through the Wi-Fi network under which we are, as long as both devices are associated with it. That is, we can finally leave our iPhone at the other end of our house or office and walk quietly through the rooms or offices knowing that we will receive any notifications or calls directly on our Apple Watch. When we leave those rooms, the connection of our device with the iPhone will be via bluetooth again.

Bluetooth has a maximum range of approximately 30 meters, but when we start to put objects between both devices, this distance is drastically reduced. The Wi-Fi connection between both devices when they are within the same network, solves this problem since as a general rule we have Wi-Fi connection in all the rooms of our house. This type of connection is very similar to the one Apple uses to transmit calls from iPhone to Mac or iPad when both devices are connected to the same network.

The latest news related to Android Wear, suggest that Google would also be adding support for a similar function in addition to controlling the device with new gestures. Perhaps at the developer conference that Google holds at the end of May, we can see a new version of Android Wear together with the application for iOS, with which we could finally connect an Android Wear device to our iPhone.
