Yesterday we told you how iOS had been the object of several attacks that for two years used different security flaws to manage to introduce spyware on our iPhone that sent all kinds of information contained in our phone hackers. Unveiled by Google's Project Zero team, these attacks were completely fixed last February.
Although the websites that installed this spyware were known, and even the recipient of all this information, Google did not give any details about it, but it was suspected that it must be a government that wanted to monitor certain population groups. The suspicion has been confirmed and TechCrunch reveals that the Chinese government used it to police the Uighur ethnic minority.
The attack required a visit to websites prepared to install spyware on our iPhones. Once installed, this software would send all possible information, from calls, location and messages to the websites visited and even usernames and passwords of the accounts of those affected. An effective way to have absolutely controlled an ethnic group that has seen more than a million people interned in mass detention camps in the last year.
The Chinese government's excuse for carrying out this massive espionage and justifying these indiscriminate arrests of Uighurs is the fight against terrorism. According to The New York Times, these detention camps are forced to sing hymns in favor of the Chinese Communist Party.
