YouTube Kids content will be supervised by people and not algorithms as before

YouTube Kids

In recent months, many of us have been parents who have stopped allowing our children make use of YouTube Kids, an application created by YouTube so that the little ones in the house can enjoy content created specifically for them. This service was launched in 2015 and has been a fantastic tool so far.

All the content that is shown through the application, an application that allows us to apply filters according to the age of the children, comes through algorithms, algorithms that do not take into account a series of factors, such as foul language, appearance of firearms in drawings, abuse of minors, videos of conspiracies refuted ad nauseam and others, content that had become available through this service.

Google assured that it was working on it, proceeding to delete a large number of them, in order to find a solution to the problem. The only solution that seems to have been found, and which is the most logical, is stop using an algorithm and let people supervise the videos that can be displayed through this app. For this, the company is creating a kind of white list, according to the age range that we configure in the application, where each and every one of the videos shown have been supervised.

The company has not reported how it will implement this change, if it will do so through an application update or if, on the contrary, it will launch a new application that will make use of these white lists. What is clear is that parents who bother to monitor what content their child views through YouTube will have seen some of these videos (personally I have seen some drawings of Peppa Pig shooting her brother George). Despite reporting the video through the function offered by the application itself, the video kept appearing, so the simplest solution was to remove the application from the device.

The minors, especially those who are in the ages to which this application is oriented they are very influenceable. It is not about putting doors to the field or that we remove children from reality. As they grow, they will have time to see what the society in which they live is like, and they will be able to see first-hand everything good and everything that we can find in it.

Sounds like a better idea to me, but I don't know how much better this can be.
