The iOS Messages app has taken an important leap with the arrival of iOS 16, and among other things, it will now allow us to delete messages that we had already sent, as other instant messaging applications such as WhatsApp or Telegram do. But the news doesn't just stop there, that's why we want to show you everything you can do.

Discover with us everything you can do with the new features of Messages in iOS 16. Now you will be able to carry out many tasks that were already present in other instant messaging applications and that serve as the last boost for Apple's own application.

As usual lately, we have decided to accompany this small guide with a video of our YouTube Channel in which you will see in action all these novelties that we refer to here. Do not miss the opportunity to join our channel and learn precisely all the news of iOS 16.

The new Messages features in iOS 16

Delete sent messages

The first and most important is the possibility of deleting or undoing the sending of messages, as it happens in WhatsApp or Telegram. To do this, we are simply going to make a long press on the message that we have sent. A range of options will open up and we will choose the "Undo Send" which is what interests us to be able to retract.

Users who have received a message and are not on iOS 16 will not see the change, however those who are on iOS 16 will see the message changed.

Edit sent messages

The other extremely interesting option is that of edit a message that we had previously sent. This functionality is as simple as the previous one, we are simply going to make a long press and this time we will choose the option "Edit". It will allow us to edit the selected message, although the receiver will receive a notification that said message has been edited. However, you won't be able to see the pre-edit content, so we shouldn't have a problem with that.

Mark as unread

On the main message screen, we will be able to long press on a chat in question. In this case, the pop-up will show us, among others, the option "Mark as unread". Automatically this conversation will appear as unread, and not only that, but the notification balloon will appear above the application icon on the SpringBoard, as if we had not read it.

It will help us to re-read messages that we have not been able to pay due attention to because we were busy.

Other relevant functions

  • If we go to Settings > Messages > Message Filtering and we activate this option, among the Message filters we will also see the option to consult the deleted messages of the last 30 days.
  • We can share SharePlay through Messages during a FaceTime call or any other compatible option.
  • Integration with «Collaboration», in this way users will receive messages advising of news when we have made changes to a collaborative file.

These are all the news present in iOS 16 Messages, we will soon be able to enjoy the latest version of the operating system.
