The DGT app, a good example of how not to do things

It is not the first time that an organism that depends on the government it launches some kind of novelty, such as an application, and things don't go as expected. And the worst of all is that the expense is usually really large (like that Senate website ...) and the result does not follow. It hurts to say but this is really typical Spanish.

Bad we started

Although the application was born with the good idea of taking advantage of the huge database of the DGT and help drivers of cars and motorcycles, the reality is that the application does not achieve its mission. And it does not do so because on many occasions the information it shows is not up to date and is imprecise. To rule out that it was my problem, I have asked some friends to test it and in this way I was able to confirm that I was not the only one to whom data from previous months appeared, for example in relation to weather information.

The design of the application it is not glorious either, I give it a five scratch and thanks. Visually unpleasant buttons and more typical of Symbian than of an app for iOS and a use of the quite debatable color palette are two of the things to review, although at least it respects the screen of the iPhone 5. This may already sound like Joke, it is not when in the last applications launched by an official body two beautiful black bands appeared when we opened it in the latest Apple terminal.

Unstable

The worst comes when we start to use the app intensively and we see that the crashes are more common than desirable. I do not know the reasons for these problems, and honestly I do not care too much, since if I expect something from an app for iOS it is that the operation is fast, fluid and without crashes. Here, too, I take points away from Apple, whose app review team should have tested the app a little more thoroughly to prevent these final problems.

To culminate this beautiful mess we have two things that must improve without a doubt: the first is that routes cannot be reversed (in the style of the Google and Apple Maps apps) and the second is that the fixed speed camera database is not very up-to-date. I do not want to think badly, but as a maneuver to collect it is really intelligent, and seeing how the DGT spends it on occasions, it would not surprise me too much if they have "forgotten" to put some fixed radar on the maps.

The great thing about iOS apps is that can be updated, so let's hope they can reverse this situation and make me update the entry rectifying all the negative points. Maybe.
