We are in the final stretch to have the Puerta del Sol Apple Store open, at least that is what we hope after seeing the facade renovated after two years staring at the canvas that covered him. It is a step forward in rebuilding the building that will house another Apple Store.
The highlight is the removal of the Tío Pepe poster that made it emblematic for a long time.
The architecture studio that works on the remodeling of the building has a virtual image that will help us to see the building completely renovated.
This building was opened in the summer of the year 1864 and housed the Hotel Paris (also called Grand Hôtel de Paris o Paris inn). It was one of the first hotels in Madrid with bathrooms in each room, room service, reception, table d'hôte, reading room, etc. During the XNUMXth century, the high prices of a hotel stay were known; many famous people, like Rubén DaríoThey stayed in their rooms.
En 1895 the Hotel has its first reform, the rooms are transformed, introduces an electric elevator and electric lighting. The hotel lived through moments of splendor until the beginning of the XNUMXth century. In 1935 A luminous sign of Gonzalez Byass was put on its façade, a sign that was changed to that of Tío Pepe. After the Civil War the hotel survived thanks to the views of the Puerta del Sol. Finally closed in May 2006.
En 2011 restoration work began and Apple reserved the space of the old Mountain Coffee o Cafe Imperial, that it was a cafe for intellectual gatherings that became famous in 1899 for being the one in which he lost an arm Ramon Maria del Valle-Inclan because of a dispute with the journalist Manuel Good.
The works are expected to be completed this year as the job offers for this locationthey take a while open on the Apple website.
