A few days ago we talked about the market share of each manufacturer in the smart speaker sector and where Amazon dominated the market in the United States, with a share of more than 70%. However, if we speak globally, Amazon continues to dominate but with a much lower fee.
The guys from Strategy Analytics have published a new report, corresponding to the fourth quarter of 2019, where we can see how smart speaker shipments reached 146.9 million units in 2019 and where, once again, Amazon is still king. Apple, with the HomePod, is in sixth position, with a market share of 4,7%, 0,6 points more than in 2018.
During the fourth quarter of 2019, Amazon shipped 15,8 million smart speakers, which allowed it to acquire a 28,3% market share, which represents an increase of 16% compared to the same period of the previous year.
In second position, we find Google, whose shipments have reached 13,9 million units and a share of 24,9%. The growth that Google has experienced is 20% if we compare it with the fourth quarter of 2018, a quarter in which it shipped 11.5 million smart speakers. Much of the growth experienced by Google is due to different promotional agreements that it has reached with both Spotify and YouTube.
In third, fourth and fifth position, we find Baidu, Alibaba and Xiaomi, with a market share during the fourth quarter of 2019 of 10,6%, 9,8 and 8,4% respectively. These smart speakers are only available in China, unlike the rest of the models that are available worldwide.
Apple does not inform about the number of devices that they put on the market, whereby analysts have to scrape their lives with supply chains to try to figure out at least the number of devices they have shipped to market for sale.
