The Gmail app welcomes widgets

One of the main novelties that we are all using in iOS 14 are widgets. As the weeks have passed since the release of the final version of iOS 14, more and more applications are are being updated to get the most out of it to your applications through widgets.

The guys at Google, have just released a new update of the Gmail application, to adopt the widgets, widgets that we can place on the home screen or in the section on the left of our device. The first thing to do is update to the latest version of Gmail and wait for Google to activate it from the server according to MacRumors.

Gmail widgets

To add the widget we must edit home screen tapping on an application and selecting Edit home screen. At that time, the system icons will turn to dance and click on the plus sign located in the upper right corner.

The widgets that we have available will be shown below and where the new ones that Gmail has included should be found. The Gmail widget allows us write a new email, see the number of emails that we have not read yet and carry out a search on our account. That's it, there are no more options available.

At first glance this widget may seem a bit useless, as many of us would expect to be able to access the list of emails that we have received. This is because Apple does not allow developers to display the content of the application through widgets, something that in Android if possible.

At the moment we do not know if Google's plans go through add new functions to this widget, but for now it seems that it will stay that way. The widget available on Android does show us the latest emails we have received, something that Apple's guidelines do not allow, hence it is not available for iOS.
