The iPad Pro… a difficult device to repair

iPad-Pro

The guys at iFixit have already got to work with the new iPad Pro, as expected. They have started to gut the new Apple device and this brings us all the details of the internal assembly of the new Apple tablet. The new device comes with a large 12.9-inch screen, with the third-generation A9X processor and other updated components, but… will the interior of the new iPad Pro bring us any surprises?

Immediately, the first thing that has been noticed when opening the device is a different organization of the components on the internal board. In addition, it has also been possible to observe a series of components that are not publicly detailed, but that are integrated into the iPad Pro:

  • 2 x Broadcom BCM15900Bo.
  • NXP 8416A1 semiconductor for Touch ID sensor.
  • Time controller Parade Technologies DP695.
  • Texas Instruments TPS65144

One of the most striking details of iFixit's work is that the device's speakers take up more or less half the space, as do the battery cells. Overall, the iFixit team gives the iPad Pro a score of 3 out of 10 for the repairability of the new apple device. One of the simplest repairs the team has found is replacing the battery, which is not soldered to the board and can be removed with adhesive strips.

Other parts of the iPad Pro are even impossible to repair or replace. For example, this happens with the Smart Connector port, but it incorporates immovable parts, which, on the other hand, increases the strength of the component and prevents it from being easily damaged. The screen, for its part, is not very easy to replace either. Both the LCD panel and the front glass panel are fused into one.

I think this is going to be a blowout failure. It seems to me something enormous and therefore very uncomfortable.

In my particular case, I have sold my iPad to buy an iPad Mini 4 and this is what I was looking for. My previous iPad was an iPad 3. Yes, nothing to do in terms of weight with the new Air but the size made me uncomfortable. I understand, however, that for professionals (my brother often uses it as a work tool) the size of the iPad is always just and necessary. However, this Pro is, in my opinion, too big and the fact that it is not more than a vitaminized iPad ("only" has iOS) subtracts it from it.

Obviously time will make me or take away my reason but I am very much afraid that Apple has been wrong outright and the latest statements by Cook totally disparaging the PC and the Surface (even calling their owners delusional), I do not think they help too much.
