The 'Live Activities' feature will not come to the initial version of iOS 16

iOS 16 Live Activities

iOS 4 beta 16 has arrived a few hours ago and with it a series of novelties that we have already analyzed. One of them was the launch of the Live activities on the lock screen under the ActivityKit development kit, rich and dynamic notifications with real-time updates. However, through a press release, Apple has announced that Live Activities will not arrive in the first final version of iOS 16 but it will in a later update. It is the first major feature of iOS 16 whose release is postponed.

Apple delays the arrival of the Live Activities feature in iOS 16

All the Live Activities or live activities are rich notifications that appear on the lock screen that allow you to display dynamic and updated information. One of the examples that Apple showed at WWDC is that of the arrival of an Uber to your location or the result of a football match. Without having to leave the lock screen, the content can be updated and adapted to changes without the need for a refresh by the user.

In a Press release, Apple announced the arrival of Live Activities in beta 4 of iOS 16:

Live Activities help people stay on top of what's happening in your app in real time, right from the lock screen. You can now get started with Live Activities and the new ActivityKit framework, which are available in iOS 4 beta 16.

However, the press release is still one of lime and one of sand. On the one hand, the start of tests with the ActivityKit development kit from beta 4 is announced. the Live Activities feature itself will not be available in the first final release of iOS 16:

Please note that Live Activities and ActivityKit will not be included in the initial public release of iOS 16. Later this year, they will be publicly available in an update and you will be able to submit your apps with Live Activities to the App Store.

This event is not strange within the Apple ecosystem. Let us remember that last year one of the functions postponed by Apple was SharePlay, the tool that allowed sharing content between users through FaceTime. Apple will launch Live Activities and allow developers to publish their updates at the end of the year, when it launches the version that will integrate this first postponed function of iOS 16.
