The Mesh, solving mathematical puzzles in the app of the week

10.080 minutes have gone back, Apple returns to put a free application for seven days. This time, the app of the week is TheMesh, a game that we could classify as math puzzle in which we will have to carry out operations to get the number that is proposed to us. But, however simple the operations may seem, the puzzle is also part of the game and how and when we carry out the operations are a fundamental part of the game.

The Mesh is about the following: we have a kind of board with hexagonal cells with a number through the center. These cells can be occupied by a number inside them and we have to combine these cells with number so that they add up the number in the center. For example, if in the center there is a two and we have two ones, putting one on top of the other we will have added what is asked of us and we will go to the next level. But luckily things get more complicated the further we go.

The Mesh, playing with math

In addition to the hexagon that shows us the number we have to get, there are five (at least) more types of hexagons:

  • Hexagons of one color and its opposite.
  • Multiplying / dividing hexagons.
  • Hexagon to retrieve cells.
  • Hexagons that change number after a certain time.
  • Surprise hexagons.

If we join two hexagons of the same color, the numbers will add up. But if we join two numbers with different colors, the numbers will be subtracted. But not everything depends on how the numbers are provided to us: if we touch a hexagon twice, it will change color. In addition, the hexagons to multiply and divide also appear and, in the same way as with colored hexagons, it will also change from multiplying to dividing if we touch it twice.

But the difficulty does not end there, what did you think? If we finish the hexagons and the sum does not match the number in the center, cells will disappear of the board, and this is what we have to avoid. When there are not enough left, we will end the game. But not everything is so negative, since there are also the hexagons to recover cells that we will only have to combine with other hexagons so that they reappear.

The truth is that I liked The Mesh. It is a game of those simple ones, without spectacular graphics that allow us to spend a while entertaining without complicating ourselves too much, which will allow us to play a game at any time. I'm going to leave it installed. You take advantage that it will be free for a week to download it and, if you are not interested later, delete it, but you will already have it linked to your Apple ID to download it if you want it in the future.
