The new keyboards and the "Allow full access" option

Keyboards

Keyboards have been the sensation since the launch of iOS 8, you just have to see the rankings of the most downloaded free or paid applications, finding several keyboards among them. But from the beginning there is one aspect that worries most iOS users: many request that we give them full access. This means that the keyboards will be able to have access to what we write, be it our personal data such as name and surname, the access codes to web pages, our credit card number or the messages we send to our friends. Is our privacy guaranteed with this option activated?

If we had to select three keyboards from the list of applications of this type available, I think that most of the selections would include one of these three: Fleksy, SwiftKey and Swype. The first two require full access to be able to use 100% of its functions, the third, however, does not require it at all, although you can grant it permission if you wish. Those responsible for SwiftKey and Fleksy have spoken about this matter and assure that there is no problem in which their keyboard is given permission to access everything we write, that they only use it to improve the user experience and offer the suggestions of what we write more adapted to us.

Apple is usually very careful in how developers use our data, but it would not be the first time that abuse has been detected, and although it tends to react quickly, the damage has already been done. While waiting for the apple company to give us more information about it or to establish some kind of limitation on this feature that keyboards use, the recommendation that from Actualidad iPad we can offer is that they are not given full permission or that they use a keyboard that does not require this function. My choice has been made for a long time on both my iPhone and my iPad: Swype.
