The butterfly mechanism that Apple pulled out of its sleeve in 2016 when it introduced the new MacBook Pro range has given Apple so much trouble that it has decided abandon it and return to the traditional scissor mechanism, a mechanism according to say from DigiTimes could reach the new generation of Smart Keyboard.
It seems that the guys from Cupertino want to improve the user experience when using an external keyboard and the introduction of a scissor mechanism in the next generation of Smart Keyboard could be the solution.
The problem is that the thickness of it will increase unless Apple has worked in a way to be able to reduce it and that the final size is increased by just a few millimeters. This information contrast to the one published by Ming Chi-Kuo last summer and in which it stated that Apple keyboards would use a rubber design instead of scissor switches in 2020-21.
The same post claims that that new keyboard could be backlit. If we add, in the end, the price of the Smart Keyboard that reaches the market together with the new generation of the iPad Pro, can become much more expensive than the one we currently have on the market.
The Smart Keyboard Folio for the 12,9-inch iPad Pro is priced at € 229, while the 11-inch iPad model is priced at € 199. DigiTimes states in the same article that 13-inch MacBook Pro with scissor keyboard will hit the market in the first half of 2020. To date, the only MacBook with a scissor keyboard is the 16-inch model that was released in November of last year.
