It is undoubtedly one of the watches that by specifications, design and materials is at the level of the Apple Watch. The Samsung Gear S2 is Samsung's big bet on smart watches this year, and this is demonstrated by the fact that Samsung abandoned the restrictions that it placed on previous models to only be compatible with its brand. Instead the Korean brand decided that its Gear S2 would work with other Android smartphones, and now it has just announced at CES 2016 that this year 2016 will also be compatible with iOS.
Samsung has not given a specific period in which this compatibility with the iPhone will arrive. Most likely, as Google has done with Android Wear devices, it will via an iOS compatible app that makes the watch paired with and used with Apple smartphones. Recall that the Gear S2 does not have Android Wear, but uses Samsung's operating system, Tizen, which makes it even more attractive than Google watches. Its rounded design is also complemented by a physical control that Samsung introduced after seeing the success of the crown on the Apple Watch. The rounded bezel of the Samsung Gear S2 rotates, as in traditional classic diving watches, and serves to move through the watch menus and scroll.
Despite being bitter enemies, it is clear that Samsung should not forget about the millions of potential users that it would get by bringing its smartwatch to iOS, many of whom may not be attracted to the design of the Apple Watch and you can see in the Samsung watch an excellent alternative to the Apple watch. Obviously we will have to see what limitations this platform has on iOS, probably very similar to those that Android Wear has right now, as we show you in our Moto 360 test.
