TomTom is updated with a new freemium application

TomTom

It was one of the first applications that I bought with my first iPhone, a 3GS (a few years ago) and since then it has been updated with new maps without having asked for a single penny. It is TomTom, once the undisputed navigation application for the car and today in low hours because of Google Maps and Apple Maps. Maybe that's why TomTom has launched a new application for iPhone, TomTom Go, free and with more than interesting services that put it a step above the competition. We tell you the details below.

TomTom-1

For me, and after many years of use, it is still the application that I carry in the car when I want to go to a well-guided place. It will not have the best interface, that is indisputable, but its offline maps and its excellent performance are more than enough to prevent you from using another. The new application, TomTom Go, maintains its functions and reliability, but also now launches a new design that, without being spectacular, does modernize it and finally adds 3D buildings and a much friendlier interface. The menus are much more modern and we find many more functions that are accessible without having to navigate too much through them.

TomTom-2

The new freemium model of TomTom Go may not convince many, but it is what now prevails. You can use it up to a total of 75km each month without paying a penny, and with all its functions, including speed cameras and traffic. The old application charged a monthly fee for traffic, so if you used this option now it will be much more affordable. If you are a more intensive user, you can buy an annual license for € 19,99, or a three-year license for € 44,99. This license will give you all TomTom services with no mileage limits during that time. Of course, map and speed camera updates (fixed and mobile) are free. And if you were one of those who had bought (like me) the old application, you will have 3 years free by switching to TomTom Go, so the price of the old app will be more than amortized. A small defect that we hope they will solve soon: although it is compatible with the iPad, it is not optimized for its screen.

Is that paying € 40 on its day and having the updates for life was already too good not to have to continue eating the cake, so the premium service already has a guaranteed income from time to time, months ago I was tempted to buy it, Thank goodness I did not do it since I suppose that the old one would be made obsolete so that you can update the one they want, in my case it will be not.

HERE Maps is offline is the best option. It is a totally free application, offline, they do not charge for anything and it even has more than 10M downloads in google, being even better valued than google maps. It makes no sense to pay when HERE takes you everywhere for free and without consuming data, even with public transport in the most important cities in Spain.
