Triangulation is the new spyware that threatens your iPhone

Spyware Triangulation

A new Trojan named Triangulation has been discovered by Kaspersky, aimed directly at Apple devices, which with a simple message can steal all your information.

The computer security company, Kaspersky, has published a news item on its blog that directly affects all iPhone users. According to the company, a new attack has been found targeting iOS and iPhones, in which With the simple receipt of a message by iMessage all your data will be in danger. This attack, called Triangulation, uses iOS vulnerabilities that allow a message received on our phone to steal our data and send it to the attackers' servers, without the user having to do anything at all.

The attack is carried out using an invisible iMessage with a malicious attachment that, using various vulnerabilities in the iOS operating system, runs on the device and installs the spyware. Spyware implantation is completely hidden and does not require any action on the part of the user. In addition, spyware also silently transmits private information to remote servers: microphone recordings, photos from instant messaging applications, geolocation, and data on various activities of the owner of the infected device.

According to the security company, this attack targeted company employees and senior executives, with the intention of stealing valuable data from their phones. But it is unknown if the tool may have spread and attacked a larger population. An indication that your iPhone could be infected is that you are not allowed to update the system. In such a case, the best thing to do is restore your device from scratch, not use your backup to set it up again, and update it to the latest available version of iOS. Although at the moment we do not know the official position of Apple in this matter, it seems that updates released in December 2022, iOS 16.2 and iOS 15.7.2 for older devices, fixed this security flaw. As usual, keeping your iPhone updated is the best antivirus tool that you can have in it.
