Trick: Overclock your iPhone 3G or 3GS

Overclocking is a technique that must be handled with care due to the risks involved in doing it., although with the values that we are going to play here the risk is minimal since the processor of the iPhone 3G and 3GS is underclocked to consume less battery, so we can be almost sure that everything will be fine.

overclock is a Anglicism commonly used in computers. It literally means on the clock, that is, to increase the clock frequency full CPU. The practice known as overclocking(formerly known as undertiming) aims to achieve greater clock speed for an electronic component (above manufacturer's specifications).1 The idea is to get a higher performance for free, or to exceed current performance quotas, although this may mean a loss of stability or shorten the useful life of the component.

The process is straightforward and described in three steps with two key requirements: provide Jailbreak and firmware lower than 2.0 *.

After the jump I leave you the instructions, courtesy of iPodtouchack and advised by Frosky (thanks!).

* In iPodtouchhack they say that it works with all iPhone OS, but I had understood that from 2.0 onwards they blocked this, so I cannot say if it works or not. In iPodtouchhack they assure that it works with all versions, that you create them is something else.

PS: QuirogaXD leaves us a much more complete guide in the comments. Highly recommended: http://mundomoviles.portalmundos.com/overclocking-iphone-3g-acelera-tu-iphone/

Common steps:

  1. Open Terminal application.
  2. Type "su root" and pass "alpine".

iPhone 3Gs

sysctl -w hw.cpufrequency_max = 800000000
sysctl -w hw.cpufrequency = 700000000
sysctl -w hw.cpufrequency_min = 600000000

iPhone 3G

sysctl -w hw.cpufrequency_max = 600000000
sysctl -w hw.cpufrequency = 500000000
sysctl -w hw.cpufrequency_min = 400000000

But let's see, if even in the screenshot it is clear that these variables are in "read-only", that is, they cannot be changed from the shell, therefore this trick does not work and this article should not have been published.

  2.   Carlinhos said

I have published it because on the website of origin they perjure that even if the read-only skip the change occurs, so if someone is encouraged to try it and wants to tell us if it works, we can put it. Obviously, if I only have one iPhone, I'm not going to do it, but if I had two, I would have run out of time.

Carlinhos again selling smoke ... How many still have 2.0? 1%? And surely that 1% are all heavy-users who would overclock their iPhone (despite having the old 2.0 ...)

Will you delete this post as well as you did 2 days ago? Will I have to report you for censorship to the other administrators?

Carlinhos, the next time you press "publish", check the content 3 times (I see that 2 is not enough for you).

    regards

    @ Matías: By parts:

1.- I have not deleted anything from you because I have never deleted a comment. There are other people above me who also monitor the blog and the comments.

2.- I don't know how many people have 2.0, I have limited myself to saying that on that website they say that it works in all versions, which I question but not that I neither affirm nor deny.

3.- You can do whatever you want, you are within your rights. Just as I am entitled to publish something that I think may be valid for people who like to experiment with their iPhone, which I DO NOT DO.

Hello ... I think that what is abundant does not hurt ... beyond that most of us who read this blog are all super gross users and we know everything ... there are people who still do not know everything and like to learn, perhaps with the firm 2.0, or earlier ... and this fact came to the hair.

So don't barde people from the blog ... because at the time of contests EVERYONE comments to see if they win something.
    Let's respect everyone's work.

    Thank you very much.

Carlinhos, I have nothing against you. Some time ago we had a discussion about some deleted comments (that you admitted to me that you had deleted but that my email account was wrong, that you tried to notify me). Again yesterday / the day before yesterday I notice that a comment disappeared in a post of yours. I don't know if it was you or Mandraque but someone was ...

Regarding the topic, the name of the blog is called ACTUALIDADiphone.com, do you think anyone reading this blog has 2.0? And if indeed someone has it, do you think it is a current issue?

As a detail, if it only works with 2.0, how is it supposed to work on 3GS if only 3.0 exists for it? It is not that I look for the hair in the egg, but your post has many gross errors ...

I am not going to waste any more time commenting on this post, but I already make things clear.

I don't have anything against you either, that's ahead.

Then, I repeat again: I have said that in the blog where I have seen it they say that it works in ALL, but I have commented that they disabled it as of 2.0. Of course, as in said blog they perjure that it works in all, because I put it in case someone is interested in testing and investigating.

And on the other hand, this blog is called ACTUALIDAD iPhone It doesn't mean that all the news has to be about the latest thing that comes out. Everything fits here, news, current events, tutorials, reviews, opinions...

Let's leave it here and continue enjoying the iPhone and the good vibes that there is usually for this blog, which is what I really like.

Interesting news. Regardless of whether it works or not, I liked it. I like this kind of news. Thanks.

I have tried it and I do not notice anything.
I have been interested in this possibility of overclocking and there is another website that indicates another method to achieve it. It looks better.
If it works and you are interested, I put the link or I copy and paste the steps to follow (somewhat more complex than those of this news)
Sorry for the accent but the button doesn't work 🙁

Carlinhos I recommend that you do not publish anything that you have not tried before, do not see news in other pages and publish them here without knowing if it works or anything.

  11.   Carlinhos said

We are going to be consistent, I publish if I see certain tests and if people comment that it works and such. Or to see if they now release an application in Cydia that deletes your entire iPhone OS and leaves your iPhone unusable and I'm also going to have to try it ... what a deal.

  12.   GasLyx said

Well, I tried the method that QuirogaXD left, but the iphone 3g is still slow ... I have 3.1.2.

  13.   Noxer said

: / No method works for me .. when I try to do what the quirogaXD page says when saving the file with the hexagesimal editor then verify it with the windows plist editor it tells me that the file is corrupt .. this happens to me change the value 457 to 530 .. but when I change it back to 457 the windows plist editor if it recognizes the file .. apparently it doesn't work for me ...

It does not work in 3.0 versions ... then what use is this "trick" ... I have not been able to do it since nothing that is said in the tutorial can be done in OS 3 ... nothing matches!
