Having trouble with links in iOS 9.3? Try these solutions

Broken Safari links

[NOTE]: The bug that this post talks about was solved with the iOS 9.3.1 release. Below you have the rest of the article.

On Monday the 21st, shortly after introducing the iPhone SE and the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, Apple launched iOS 9.3. As in every launch, we are not all equally satisfied, but in this case we cannot speak of a relatively minor problem, such as a decrease in autonomy. iOS 9.3 came with a bug that seems quite widespread that prevents opening some links from some applications. Apple has not yet communicated knowledge of this bug, but just read the comments from readers of Actualidad iPhone to realize that the problem exists.

It is clearly an annoying glitch. Not being able to open links on a smartphone makes a device less attractive and the Cupertino company is expected to move forward and fix the problem sooner rather than later (Tuesday?), Something they could fix without having to launch a new version of iOS. Until the time comes, we can try various solutions While it is true that they will reduce the user experience a bit, it is also true that it could allow those affected by this annoying problem to use the device "normally".

How to fix the links crash in iOS 9.3

Of the solutions that we are going to provide today, you can choose one or more. It is best to try one of them and see if everything works "normally". If not, try another solution. We are going to discuss up to 3 options, but it is best to try to disable as little as possible.

Turn off Safari Suggestions

This solution worked recently when it was impossible to navigate from Safari, something that Apple fixed without releasing a new version of iOS. We will disable them by doing the following:

  1. We open the Settings.
  2. Let's go to Safari.
  3. Within Safari, we deactivate Safari Suggestions

Disable Safari Suggestions

Clear history and website data

  1. We open Settings.
  2. As in the previous solution, we enter Safari.
  3. We tap on Clear history and website data.
  4. And finally, we accept by tapping on Clear history and data.

Clear Safari history and data

Disable JavaScript

This is an option that you have left us in the comments. We will disable JavaScript by doing the following:

  1. We open Settings.
  2. How could it be otherwise, let's go to Safari.
  3. We slide down and touch Advanced.
  4. And finally, we deactivate the switch, lever or toggle JavaScript.

Disable JavaScript in Safari

Has it worked for you? Do not hesitate to leave your experiences in the comments.

And I tried all the suggestions given and none of them worked.
It is a nuisance that I hope will be solved soon.

With JavaScript disabled, Google links do work, but the problem is that practically all websites use it.
In Mail, notes, Messages, WhatsApp when trying to copy a link it is blocked.
To search in Google I use the Google APP, the results do work.

How are you! I have problems with Safari and Yandex, in general I have noticed problems loading data in all applications, and the problem is not the domestic wifi, it is the iPhone .. It is good to find out about this in the post, someone else has this ?

  4.   MARTA said

Well, no, none of the three alternatives have worked for me. When I give a link it hangs on me !! Anyway, I hope that Apple solves this as soon as possible or if on the contrary you still have any more option to try an alternative solution.

Pufff, is that this iOS is now to go to piss and not take a drop mate, it is one shit after another, it seems to have no end. And then people talk about other systems, but if iOS is no longer even the shadow of what it was for God! In one that if the time did not change automatically with the change of time (which caused millions of people to arrive late to their work station), in another that if the battery was discharged much faster than normal, add and go and now this in the long awaited iOS 9.3.

That Apple has not ruled on this? ... Well, as always, now the blame will be on users because they do not know how to put or click a link, as when the AntenaGate that according to Apple happened because users did not know how to pick up the phone, mother of love beautiful, what a shame, what a horror.

Before, when you bought an iPhone and paid what you paid for the phone, you did it because of its infallibility, because everything you did, you did very well, because it did not have errors that other systems did. For some time all this disappeared and an iPhone fails or may fail as well or more than other systems, so it makes sense now to pay what an iPhone is worth when it has the same problems, or more, than other systems, its hardware is infinitely lower and above, do they take away universal connections to leave their own? Of course, I am more and more glad to have switched to the S7 edge. And watch out! I am not happy about this type of news that is crystal clear; I just hope that these things wake up people, that they react and that with it they make Apple react and return the iPhone to what it was, the best mobile system in the world.

Perhaps this will ensure that the next keynotes are not presented as an absolute novelty, as a world revolution a few simple nylon straps for your smartwatch, which is what happened in the last keynote, in my opinion a ridiculous and embarrassing spectacle.

Well, I have this problem since I bought the phone in January 6s plus, and I am still with it, with iOS 9.2 after multiple calls and Setting up as new and with a new Apple ID, they changed the phone and we continue, so What I see when updating is happening to more people, I keep waiting, of course totally disappointed, a phone that is useless to me, we are like a paperweight, it does not open any links, only with some applications,

  7.   snows said

I forgot to mention that this problem with iOS 9.3, more people dragged it with iOS 9.2 since January more or less, and we still have no result

Try Microsoft's Lumia, surely you will not regret it. I had a low-end Lumia 520 and it was wonderful, my next device will not be an expensive i Phone, but a 640-inch Lumia 5.7 Xl that comes with Windows 8.1 Demin.

Don't complicate your life. what do you offer iis 9.3 that you no longer have? Night shift? What bullshit. because that has been rl problems for years, to put absurd and useless bullshit for what? For listening to 4 silly geeks asking for "innovation"? Well, take geroma, as of ios 7 they have not hit the ball, each update has been worse than the other. The only way for your idevice to work perfectly and without problems is to keep it with the original ios that comes with it. Iphone 6s and ipad mini with original ios and 4 essential jailbreak tweaks and voila, pepinacos from idevices. And I do not hear update in life, none of the useless bullshit of the new ios is necessary for me. If you want to be happy, DO NOT update !!

I have the same problem iPhone 6 128GB, dragging it from 9.2.1, it does not open links from app, emails or safari searches. If you restore as new it seems that it works, but it is worth losing all the settings, photos, and reconfiguring all the applications so that as they say, it will fail again ??. I have tried restoring copies of itunes, icloud and with no results. If you deactivate Java, it works only some links, but the pages that need java, logically does not work. This is a lie, the bug has been going on for more than 2 months since it started for me, it started with 9.2.1 after solving the bug that safari was closing when clicking on the address bar, the bug takes a long time and they remove it now because it has passed many people but it is not the fault of 9.3, in fact it can be solved it is simple but we must sacrifice the applications we have by restoring as "NEW IPHONE" and deleting the copy of icloud dspues recovering data through the account icloud notes, contacts, photos, etc ... only the apps that can be downloaded later are lost, but the fault has just come out. LIE, fat, that I've been tied up for more than 2 months and a technician from Ireland has contacted me and the only solution is the one I have. post, luck and greetings

I also have the problem on an iPhone 6s, it was already happening to me with iOS 9.2 but when updating to 9.3 it has worsened, it does not open any link and to top it off Safari is blocked, something that had never happened to me and that I did not expect to happen to me never in a
Iphone. I have deleted data and browsing history and nothing. Disabling JavaScript and Safari suggestions, the links work but only in Safari, not in mail or whatsapp, or in other apps. It is the second iPhone that I have and until now I was happy but from what I see in the only thing that Appel was infallible and the only thing that was worth paying the extra price compared to the competition, which is for the stability of the operating system, is being questioned … .Appel's apple is starting to rot… .. If Stev Jobs lifted his head…. Anyway, let's hope they solve it soon because from what we see it is a generalized and very annoying failure, inexcusable for the price of these devices.

First of all, tell this post that from what you see the problem is not from IOS 9.3, it comes from long before and now it is becoming more widespread. So the title is not suitable, it is clear that there is a serious problem. It happened to me this morning and I didn't update anything.
I wrote yesterday saying that I know people who have suffered for months and »fought» alone. Now we are many and those who will leave, they will have to do something and solve it at once

I have a phone appointment tomorrow at 11 am with Apple service. Although I don't think it will solve anything for me by seeing everything that Nieves and other people did for nothing more than losing data.
Sorry to have bothered you or raised "suspicions" the problem is serious, I have an iphon6 and a long time at Apple. It is not my intention to annoy or deceive, only to communicate my problem because I think that if there are many of us they will have a little more interest in giving an answer and finding a solution

I hallucinate with what is happening with Apple. What some of you say is true, these problems are not from now, we have been dragging them for a long time but for whatever reasons the incidence is multiplying as if it were a large-scale contagion.
I think that given the magnitude that this whole issue is taking, it would be convenient to report it to an organization like change.org, there is no better vaccine against viruses than to attack them where it hurts the most, in this case, discrediting the brand.

The same thing happens to me since Saturday night when I downloaded Ios 9.3 from that moment on the iPhone 6S and on the ipad air, I can not open any links. I have called Apple's technical support phone twice and they tell me that they have no idea what is happening and to disable Java to see if it works, but that is not the solution for a phone of this price… .it is desperate! !

  84.   Manolo said

The Java thing if it works. Shame on how the quality of the iPhone service is decreasing

It did not work for me what can be done in that case, they do not know when the new update will be to improve this discomfort in the team.

Thanks for the steps !! I was desperate, after making the changes, turning off and starting the iPhone works normally!
I do not understand how Apple does not give a solution immediately!

It didn't work for me !! I tried all 3 and then rebooted and it remains the same 🙁

Tried all 3 options and it doesn't work with any on iPhone. Everything works fine on the iPad Air without any adjustments.

HELP !!, I have an iPhone6 and update to iOS 9.3 however the problem it gave me was with the Wifi, now my phone no longer lets me turn on the wifi, the option appears in a dark gray tone and is not activated. Does anyone know if it is a software problem for having updated? since before it worked perfectly. What gives me doubt is that I tried to downgrade to iOS 9.2.1 and I still had the same problem. Any comments about it that can help me please? 🙁

I have an iPhone6 and I update to iOS9.3, the problem I have is that I cannot make calls, or data, as if I had no balance ... the only way is with Wi-Fi, who could help me ??????

I have a problem with iOS9.3 on the iphone 6S, I don't know if I should be the only one that when I look for a contact in Spotlight, it won't let me call or send messages directly, I have to enter. And when I access that contact through spotlight, it does not take me to the file of the contact in question, but simply opens the contacts application.
Does the same thing happen to someone?

And if we start to ask for a refund of the money of the mobile phones in guarantee?

I am going to give a margin of time (little now)! Well, I think that three months are enough, not even the engineer who is following my case, she agreed to call me and she has not done it, yesterday I called her and the answering machine was on, I left her My number and the case number and I'm still waiting, they already registered the errors of my phone twice, I thought that when the errors became generalized it would be fast, in short we will wait a little more

Another option that works is to change the search engine in Settings. Bing works without disabling javascript.

Apple has been covered in glory this time. My ipad did not recognize the applestore password after updating and my macbook pro did not finish the update and I had to format. A fat shit from Apple.

  101.   Xavi said

The question, more than the failures, because Apple's big shit is known by all, is, when will the solution be done? When the new update with the bugs fixed?

  102.   Xavi said

I self-answer and hope it works for everyone else… .NEW UPDATE READY! I just saw it. The 9.3.1, as indicated solves the problem …… let's cross our fingers and download !!

  103.   Xavi said

Before meeting him I was in a chat with Apple's technical service. They tell me that the update came out 5 minutes ago. 27'5 mb through the mobile and 1'88Gb if you do it through iTunes ... much better iTunes because it is a clean update. I hope it has helped you.

I had a week with the problem of not being able to open links from safari, with the help you gave me it was finally solved !!!

I have done all three and it has worked for me. I can now open the links. I only had a problem with the iPhone. Nothing happens to me on the iPad. Thank you very much for the help.

Tonight I decided to update 9.3 and then 9.3.1 because I thought that it would not be worse and that since I only "suffered" for 3 days it would not be terrible to wait a few more days. It works on everything. I trust this is final, not like the 2 patches that apple gave me
What is clear that when we have an incident, in addition to seeking comfort and help in good places like this, we have to call Apple because they have incident records is the way to "move" for real.
Now I can register on the blog.
    All the best

Well, yes, update and it works, (for now) the long solo journey is over, of angry discussions in the end, I'm happy, but at the same time angry because while it has not been "a crowd" they have had us without paying attention, and when it has been like that, how quickly they have solved it, and sorry Pablo for what you already know. All the best

Yesterday I wrote in this blog and my comment does not appear and therefore no response. In my country, Venezuela, update 9.3.1 has not appeared and. I found the suggestions on this blog to work for me. I do not know what to do, on top of the serious problems that we have, being poorly communicated on the phone aggravates everything.

    1.    danylson batista said

sonia ,,, you tried on »check for updates»? you do not appear alone ,, you need to search

  110.   Ana Martinez said

I have updated to 9.3.1 but some pages still do not work. The vueling page for example does not work on iPad Air or with the update or with the solutions that you have put here, on the iPhone it does work. It lets you search for origin, destination, dates ... All the drop-downs work but when you give it to search it does nothing. It goes on more pages but I don't remember them.

  111.   danylson batista said

It is already solved by apple…. a 25 mb update is available, solving problems opening links

    1.    Ana Martinez said

      No. It is not solved.
